The beauty of dance is the universality of its language and in this regard my mini-lessons provide lessons in social adaptation and negotiation. The through line is “negotiation” (build, better, together) with one subject per lesson: harmony, balance, connection, togetherness, and cooperation.

About Lane Gifford
Lane Gifford is a Wingspan Arts teaching artist, offering multi-arts movement classes to children in the New York, Queens, and Brooklyn public school systems. She also has taught dance in several institutions including University of Kansas and her own summer creative arts program. Her mission as an educator: ignite the imagination of children and use the arts as a collective voice. In our current technologically driven world, the importance of aesthetic education and the role it can play in students’ lives is central to Lane. She offers an inclusive, collaborative environment in which the individual strengths of each student are emphasized. Through technique-based and improvisational exercises, Lane’s dance classes are a place for individual expression and creative exploration.
Additionally Lane stresses the celebration of different backgrounds, countries, cultures, genders, and races in her classes. Partnering exercises instill lessons in awareness and negotiation, with a goal to deconstruct division towards intersecting pathways for all children.
Lane first studied dance at The Boston Conservatory in Boston, MA. She received a BFA in dance performance and MFA specializing in choreography from Purchase College Conservatory of Dance. In 2006 she founded LaneCoArts, a dance theater company. Performances include: Jacob’s Pillow, NY International Fringe Festival, Dixon Place, Baruch PAC, Triskelion Arts, Le Poisson Rouge, New York Theater Workshop, Boston Center For The Arts, Dance Place, Kaatsbaan, Spring To Dance Festival, and Women in Dance Leadership Conference. Commissioned projects include McKnight Artist Fellowship, Southern Utah University Residency, iKada Dance Company and Joffrey Ballet School Commission. www.lanecoarts.org
