OPPORTUNITY OVERVIEW

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and with support from The New York Community Trust, BRIC is pleased to announce a new IN-KIND VIRTUAL CONTENT AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE GRANT opportunity. Our goal is to provide in-kind media production support and training to ten arts organizations that would not otherwise be able to present virtual programming for their audiences. BRIC will present two program sections in 2021 designed to help ten New York City-based arts and cultural organizations capture and distribute digital content, as well as build internal media capacity toward long-term sustainability.

Each group selected will receive technical assistance and media production support to create original virtual content, worth an estimated in-kind value of $20,000. This support is intended to address the challenges that many New York City arts and culture organizations are currently facing in

sharing their programming with members and supporters in the virtual realm.  BRIC now invites applications for the fall cohort. Six non-profit arts and culture organizations will be selected to participate in this cohort, which will run from October through December 2021. All groups served by this program will have a dedicated Executive Producing Mentor who will help them design a custom project plan comprised of one or more of the following components, based on need, interest, BRIC capacity and budget.

  • Content Capture: professional video capture (single or multi-camera) of live events, performances, classes, and/or programs by BRIC’s media production staff. Content can either be live-streamed or edited for future release.
  • Distribution: content can be aired on BRIC’s Brooklyn Free Speech television network, helping to expand the audience reach for partner organizations to BRIC’s five million annual public access television viewers.
  • Space: BRIC can capture content at partner organization facilities or can help secure filming locations. BRIC House space rentals for content capture can be made available on a case-by-case basis.
  • Continuing Education: BRIC offers a suite of adult media education courses and can offer spots in public classes or create a custom offering, based on the needs of each organization. BRIC’s offerings are robust and broad, covering topics ranging from studio and field video production, to editing and post-production, to marketing, social media, and distribution.

Priority will be given to New York City arts and culture organizations that 1) have struggled to transition their programming to online/virtual platforms due to a lack of financial resources and media capacity, 2) engage New Yorkers most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and 3) have dedicated staff or volunteer capacity to successfully participate in the program.
