Job description
Notes in Motion/Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre, a non-profit organization and arts vendor of the NYC Department of Education, seeks a full-time Education Program Manager to oversee our dynamic, inclusive, and robust dance education program in the NYC Public Schools. The Education Program Manager is an experienced dance teacher with extensive knowledge in developmental stages for students ages 3-18 who can model excellence and support the growth of our diverse Education Ensemble of Teaching Artists. The Education Program Manager should have experience with the NYC Department of Education and the Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts. The ideal candidate is an inspiring leader who models kindness and wisdom for students, Teaching Artists, and the communities we serve. The Education Program Manager is passionate about advancing our goals of equity, racial justice, and inclusion through the arts. They are an advocate for change, an imaginative problem solver, adept at anticipating challenges, resolving conflict, and moving through red tape to keep programs running throughout the busy school year. This position involves excellent organization and communication skills, and conscientiousness when working with public agencies and funders. This is a full-time exempt position that involves regular travel to schools throughout the NYC public school system. As a senior member of Notes in Motion/Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre, the Education Program Manager will also support company-wide events, fundraising efforts, and marketing initiatives.

Company Mission

Notes in Motion is a dance theatre company made up of Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre, producing original dance theatre performances and Notes in Motion Outreach Dance Theatre, presenting in-school and community arts-in-education programs. Notes in Motion Outreach Dance Theatre offers a wide array of residency, professional development, interactive performance, and after-school programs that teach dance skills, choreography, improvisation, inter-disciplinary study, and arts appreciation in dance styles including modern, ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, Latin, African, and more. These programs are united by our singular approach to arts education, The Movement Exchange Method, in which students take on leadership roles in their own learning, have creative input in the design of the curriculum, participate in critical discussions of the work of their peers, and develop collaborative skills. Programs foster self-discovery, risk-taking, and making connections between different topics, themes, and areas of learning. We aim to provide access to the art form of dance to inspire the next generation of dance appreciators.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in dance, education, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5 + years background working in or with the NYC public schools (or comparable system)
  • Substantive arts administration as well as teaching experience
  • Highly organized, technologically savvy, detail oriented
  • Self-managed, ability work remotely and independently
  • Formal dance training and professional performance experience
  • Possess a vibrant passion for dance and dance education
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
    • with Notes in Motion colleagues, including all staff and teaching artists
    • out in the field, acting as an engaging, articulate, and informed representative of Notes in Motion

Responsibilities

Oversee the Notes in Motion Education Program. Direct the daily operations of the Notes in Motion Education Department, including:

PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION

  • Manage the administrative flow of new and continuing dance education programs including scheduling, contracts, curriculum, correspondence, and evaluation; make administrative documents accessible for all staff

SCHOOL PARTNERS

  • Manage correspondence with school leaders: process letters of agreement, likeness releases, support and follow-up materials for faculty and staff, and purchase orders with school partners
  • Visit school sites and schedule meetings to monitor existing programs and build new partnerships
  • Manage evaluation and assessment of programs, develop systems to monitor, track, organize, and analyze assessment materials as well as share highlights to build our brand

SUPERVISION of TEACHING ARTISTS

  • Oversee, supervise, recruit, and train Notes in Motion’s Education Ensemble (Teaching Artist Roster)
    • Advertise, plan, and administer auditions to recruit new Teaching Artists as necessary
    • Manage all correspondence with Teaching Artist candidates throughout the recruiting process, from initial interest to acceptance into the Education Ensemble (for qualified candidates)
    • Plan and administer regular Professional Development/Teaching Artist Training Sessions (4/year)
    • Work with Teaching Artists to develop engaging and inspiring curriculum that meets the needs of our partner schools, highlights the Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts, and engages entire school communities
    • Observe Teaching Artists in action, providing feedback, mentorship, and guidance
    • Review Teaching Artists journal logs, and develop monthly reports for payroll and Executive Director review
    • Oversee planning and execution of culminating events and performances, and assist with program documentation (photography and video)

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT

  • Maintain strong vendor relationship with the Department of Education and other city agencies
    • Attend networking, professional development, and other relevant meetings, events, seminars, and workshops
  • Work with Development Associate to prepare program descriptions and samples for grants, identifying school partners for specific funding initiatives, and working with school leaders to submit grants as needed
  • Market programs to new schools, preparing mailings and new initiatives to engage new clients and advance Notes in Motion’s arts-in-education programs

TEACHING ARTIST

The Education Program Manager will act as a Teaching Artist for 5 + programs/year – 10-20% of their time. As a Senior Teaching Artist, the Education Program Manager will mentor the Teaching Artist roster, fill-in when needed to support ongoing programs, and have a hands-on working knowledge with our active school partners and program structures.

Compensation

$58,500/year + benefits

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $57,000.00 – $60,000.00 per year
