As part of the Queens Museum’s integrated program team, the education department plays a vital role in advancing the Museum’s mission. The Department offers a range of free and low-cost award-winning learning experiences that connect people, art and culture. They take place at the Museum, online, and at community partner sites across the borough of Queens the most linguistically and culturally diverse places in the US.
Job Position Summary
The Youth & Family Programs Manager (YFPM) works closely with the Director of Education and QM team to create, implement and manage innovative learning programs providing high-quality art education for families and teens. They are part of the Content Team working across the Museum to create an integrated program of activity and also support QM’s goal of supporting intergenerational learning. Reporting to the DoE, the YFPM will manage all aspects of the Queens Teens Institute for Art and Social Justice (QTI), including art and cultural sessions, leadership workshops, community service projects, and education seminars embedded in art and social justice, civic engagement, and activism for teens and young people.
The YFPM is a key collaborator in establishing strategic goals, initiatives, and partnerships that directly relate to the museum’s integrated approach to education, exhibitions & public programs. Successful candidates will be detail-oriented team players with strong administrative and interpersonal skills, well-versed in contemporary art practice, and committed to the connection between art, learning, and movements for social justice. Roles & Responsibilities
Essential Functions
QTI & Teen Programming
- Oversee outreach to recruit teens for the QTI program participants in collaboration with community and school partners, to grow teen audiences through best practices in the sector
- Facilitate teen activities and youth work assignments, ensuring positive youth experience
- Cultivate key relationships with high schools, community organizations, fellow teen program
- Collect documentation to evaluate and assess teen and young adult program
- Manage teaching artists, educators, community leaders and activists to design curriculum for workshops, seminars and classes
- Provide information needed to the Communications team to develop and maintain social media channels
- Assists the Development department with tracking, writing, and budgeting for fundraising purposes and reporting.
Family Programming
- Develop, promote, and schedule family programming and camp programming, working to boost outreach and participation through community partnerships
- Manages and supports teaching artists and lead the administration of family programs both onsite and offsite at partner organizations
- Be attentive and responsive to local, borough and city-wide demographic trends as it relates to youth and family engagement at the Museum.
- Oversee program evaluation, gather data, documentation and research through collaborative action research. Report on the impact of QM’s family programming.
- Administrative responsibilities include but are not limited to program and grant budget management, payroll, invoices and payments, inventory management.
- Manage project timelines and budgets to ensure all program milestones are met
