Job Position Summary

The Queens Museum seeks an energetic and well-organized Youth Programs Coordinator with a passion for engaging diverse young audiences of all backgrounds, experiences and abilities through a vibrant range of learning experiences and encounters with art and culture. Reporting to the Education Manager, the Youth Coordinator works directly with the Director of Education to shape and implement the Young Leaders Art and Social Justice Institute, a series of art and cultural sessions, leadership workshops, community service projects, and education seminars embedded in art and social justice, civic engagement, and activism for teens and young people.

Successful candidates will be detail-oriented team players with strong administrative and interpersonal skills, well-versed in contemporary art practice, and committed to the connection between art, learning and movements for social justice. Roles & Responsibilities

  • Work with the Director of Education to design and implement the Young Leaders Art & Social Justice Institute for teens and young people
  • Oversee outreach to recruit teen program participants in collaboration with community and school partners, to grow our teen audiences through best practices in the sector
  • Facilitate teen activities and youth work assignments, ensuring positive youth experience
  • Promote and expand teen participation, engagement and leadership at the Museum through connection other programs events, partnerships and other initiatives
  • Manage a teen leadership advisory council (which will organize and coordinate focus groups and visioning sessions to discuss youth programming, identify organizing strategies, provide feedback, and recommend improvements)
  • Facilitate communication within the team and serves as a point person to others across the Institute;
  • Cultivate key relationships with high schools, community organizations, fellow teen programs
  • Collect documentation to evaluate and assess teen and young adult programs
  • Works with teaching artists, educators, community leaders and activists to design curriculum for workshops, seminars and classes
  • Work with the Communications team to develop and maintain social media channels the YLASJI and other teen programs
  • Works with the Community Organizer to develop community service projects for the YLASJI
  • Assists the Development department with tracking, writing, and budgeting for fundraising purposes and reporting.
  • Order supplies for all teen and young adult programs, events and workshops
  • Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.
