Youth Corps Manager

About Our Organization

Part American palace, part industrial shed, Park Avenue Armory is dedicated to supporting unconventional works in the visual and performing arts that need non-traditional spaces for their full realization, enabling artists to create, students to explore, and audiences to experience epic, adventurous, relevant work that cannot be mounted elsewhere in New York City.

The Armory’s Arts Education Program immerses students from New York City public schools in the creative process of world-class artists and fosters students’ own creative instincts. The program has three main components: (1) Production-based Programming, in which students experience works of music, theater, dance and visual art, and participate in workshops with Teaching Artists; (2) Partner School Program, in which deeper relationships with schools are created through customized residencies; and (3) the Armory Youth Corps, a paid and closely mentored internship program for students ages 16-25+ with nearly 100 participants annually.

Job Position Summary

The Youth Corps Manager is a student-centered youth educator who will help shape the next iteration of the High School Internship program through teaching and planning that aligns with the Armory mission and Arts Education department goals. Since the High School Internship program is a student’s first experience as member of staff at the Armory, this position plays a key role in students’ foundation for success, as well as fosters their unique perspective across their multiple years in the program, which can extend beyond high school, with the goal of creating a strong intergenerational student community and advocating for youth voice within and beyond the Armory.

Key responsibilities include teaching and program management, with a focus on high school students; student development and mentorship, from one-on-one support to training and ongoing communication; and proactively managing administrative systems that support the Youth Corps community. We are looking for a skilled teacher who is motivated by both day-to-day relationship building with students and intentional long-term planning, and is energized by the opportunity to evolve the High School program to cultivate students’ ongoing involvement at the Armory, as well as their career and leadership skills for future success.

The Youth Corps Manager reports to the Director of Youth Corps, is an integral part of the Arts Education Team, and works closely with other Armory departments. The Youth Corps Manager oversees part-time Youth Corps interns and works closely with the Youth Corps Coordinator.
