Youth Corps Coordinator

About Our Organization

Part American palace, part industrial shed, Park Avenue Armory is dedicated to supporting unconventional works in the visual and performing arts that need non-traditional spaces for their full realization, enabling artists to create, students to explore, and audiences to experience epic, adventurous, relevant work that cannot be mounted elsewhere in New York City.

The Armory’s Arts Education Program immerses students from New York City public schools in the creative process of world-class artists and fosters students’ own creative instincts. The program has three main components: (1) Production-based Programming, in which students experience works of music, theater, dance and visual art, and participate in workshops with Teaching Artists; (2) Partner School Program, in which deeper relationships with schools are created through customized residencies; and (3) the Armory Youth Corps, a paid and closely mentored internship program for students ages 16-25+ with nearly 100 participants annually.

Job Position Summary

The Youth Corps Coordinator plays a central role in the Youth Corps program, directly supporting nearly 100 students annually in their participation in student-centered programming and Armory communities. The Youth Corps Coordinator provides key administrative support for program activities, as well as assistant teaching across all Youth Corps programs, including high school, intergenerational, and post-high school initiatives, and serves as a mentor for students across their multiple years in the program, which can extend beyond high school.

Key responsibilities include assistant teaching across all programs, working directly with the Youth Corps team to foster student engagement; student mentorship, both one-on-one and as the primary point person for most student communication, announcements, and questions; and essential administrative support for all programs, from data management to payroll and beyond. We are looking for an early-career educator interested in combining their personal passion for organization with their teaching skills, and knows that helping students successfully navigate their first job can be just as meaningful a learning experience as facilitating a group discussion around art.

The Youth Corps Coordinator reports to the Director of Youth Corps and is an integral part of the Arts Education Team. The Youth Corps Coordinator works closely with the Youth Corps Manager.
