Founded in 1997, Community-Word Project is a New York City arts-in-education organization that facilitates culturally responsive, multidisciplinary art programs for students, teaching artists, and communities to develop and amplify their voices and creative skills.
Job Position Summary
The YA Program Manager works closely with the Community-Word Project (CWP) Youth Programs team and supports all phases and related tasks of CWP’s YA programming. Current YA programming includes the following:
- Screenwriting for Film & TV: a 3-4 month long program meeting weekly
- CWP 2.0: a two week summer intensive focused on arts and technology.
- College and career events open to young adults participating in any CWP program.
This is a growing role that is currently a part-time, 16 hours per week administrative position during the fall and summer and 20 hours per week during busy recruiting periods (December-June).
This is a hybrid role. The YA Program Manager will be on site for select meetings, evaluation, supply drop-off/pick-up, program sessions, and specific events. The work schedule is four, four-hour days per week between Monday-Friday. (Days may be adjusted if supporting/visiting a weekend program.) During the December-June period, the additional four hours can be added as needed for school recruiting visits, etc.. Regular hours should be established within the first 30 days of beginning the role. Note: Some initial onboarding will take place during late afternoons and that availability will be needed.
CWP YA program recruitment takes place in all five boroughs of NYC at our partner school sites which are primarily in the Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn. YA program sessions typically take place in Manhattan at the CWP Office or Brooklyn at a partner site. The YA Program Manager will travel to and from recruitment, program, and event sites as part of their work and should be able to travel by public transit. College visits may take place in and beyond the five boroughs.

Roles & Responsibilities
General:
- Weekly check-ins with the Youth Programs team
- Departmental planning and visioning with the Youth Programs team
- Support integration of social justice initiatives rooted in inquiry, analysis, empathy and reflection
- As possible, attend Weekly Project Check-ins with the full admin team
- Keep work calendar up-to-date with regular hours
YA Programs:
- Recruit participants for YA programming with support from the larger Youth Programs team
- Facilitate reflection and culminating events in collaboration with peers and partners as applicable
- Liaise directly with CWP, school administrators, program partners, and participants
- Schedule, plan, and implement program evaluation with support from the Program Manger of Social Impact and Deputy Director of Programs and Operations (DDPO) and partner staff as applicable.
- Coordinate 1 college and career exposure event (e.g. college visit, career panel, etc.)
- Be a consistent presence for participating young adults in CWP programming, responsive to youth questions and updates.
- Participate in macro planning conversations for YA Programs with peers at CWP and relevant partner organizations
- Onboard and manage TA staff facilitating YA programs
- Support TAs with check-ins
- Program visits, support, and feedback on curriculum outlines, lesson plans, and facilitation
- Purchase and distribute program supplies, food, stipends, and Metrocards
- Update YA Programs calendar with program information
- Update Salesforce with relevant YA program information
- Track participant attendance at events and receipt of materials (e.g. permission forms, media releases) and organize on the YA Google drive
- Support updates of the website with YA program content
- Send reminders to participants to support their attendance and attendance requirements.
- Support participating schools with reminders and any questions they may have about upcoming events that require their students’ attendance.
- Document project sessions when attending and archive documentation in the CWP Shared Drives
- Maintain an organized file folder system of participant-generated content, program materials, etc..
- Participate in fundraising conversations and planning related to CWP YA programs
- Track budget items connected to the budget in collaboration with the DDPO
Qualifications:
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Strong understanding of Teaching Artistry, Arts Education, and content knowledge as an artist in your discipline
- Experience and comfort using Google Suite products (such as Google Drive, Docs, and Sheets) and Zoom
- Strong collaboration skills
- Minimum of 2 years of experience managing youth programs
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Teaching Artist working with young adults aged 14-20
- Commitment to serving and learning from young people in the New York City area
- Commitment to incorporating anti-racist and social justice practices into your teaching, collaboration, and communication
- Experience using Salesforce or similar data management tools is a plus but not required.
- Ability to facilitate in Spanish, Mandarin, French, and/or Arabic a plus but not required.
