About Our Organization
Originally known as Dance Theatre Etcetera, DTE achieved national acclaim for making the arts a critical component of urban renewal as well as its recovery efforts in Red Hook, Brooklyn. As the organization evolved, DTE rebranded as Hook Arts Media. This new identity reflects its focus on creative learning for community change, incorporating 21st-century technology into its arts education programs.
Hook Arts Media’s in-school multidisciplinary media and arts programs primarily serve NYC transfer high schools. Its community programs focus on digital media and computer literacy, preparing young people with college and/or career readiness skills.
Job Position Summary
Hook Arts Media Seeks Theatre Teaching Artists for Spring 2023
Hook Arts Media is seeking theatre educators with experience in applied theatre and/or devised theatre for its work at a public elementary school in New York City.
Hook Arts Media’s Theatre program at PS 15 asks students to be creative and have fun while learning the basic building blocks of theatre.
Roles & Responsibilities
Through role-plays, theatre games, improv exercises, creative writing, and storytelling, participants will gain a love of theater helping them develop communication, creativity, collaboration, and other skills that will develop a creative foundation for success in life.
The ideal candidates will have significant experience (3+ years) facilitating theatre curricula in public school settings working with 1st – 5th graders. Strong classroom management skills and a solid background in theatre education are mandatory. Experience in “applied theatre” settings, using theatre to access various modes of learning, is preferred. Candidate should be adept at working with diverse youth groups and able to adapt lessons and resources to aesthetic interests of students. An emphasis on using theatre as a tool for conflict resolution a plus.
Pay is commensurate with experience: $85-$95 per class with paid planning hours and compensation for attendance at special events.
