Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC), a Tony Award-winning nonprofit theatre dedicated to the production of contemporary plays and musicals, seeks a temporary, part-time Education Administrative Assistant for the remainder of the 2023-24 season. For fifty years, MTC has been the creative and artistic home for America’s most gifted theatrical artists, producing works of the highest quality by American and international playwrights. We are strongly committed to producing work that is made by, and tells the stories of, a wide range of voices from all walks of life and to making that work accessible to all audiences including those that have historically lacked access to the arts and cultural sector. MTC produces up to eight plays annually in Broadway’s restored Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on West 47th Street and off Broadway at the historic NY City Center complex on West 55th Street.
Job Position Summary
The temporary, part-time Education Administrative Assistant will support MTC Education’s efforts to prepare learners of all ages to see theatre and to teach them how to write their own plays. This work takes place across ten programs ranging from local in-school teaching artist residencies to a distance learning program reaching students across the country and around the world. Each year, MTC Education impacts the lives of approximately 3,000 young people and families.
This is a part-time temporary position at MTC’s administrative office (311 West 43rd Street, New York, NY). The expectation is that the Education Administrative Assistant will work approximately 29 hours per week with up to two days per week remote (depending upon programmatic events calendar). This role will begin on or around January 8, 2024 and is expected to conclude in May 2024. Compensation is $20.00 per hour.
Roles & Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities will include:
- Coordination of all administrative aspects of Write Now!, a nine-week after-school playwriting program for highly motivated high school students
- Support all administrative aspects of TheatreLink, a theatre-making distance learning program, including tracking communications and work product submission deadlines, and attending and providing technical support for numerous Zoom video conferences
- Communication via email and phone with an array of program participants including teachers, students, and families
- Data entry to update customer relationship management databases and record participant feedback about programs
- Assistance at workshops and special events, as needed
Requirements:
- High degree of confidence and comfort communicating via email, over the phone, and during in-person interactions with a diverse array of people
- The ability to adapt to existing organizational systems while also developing your own so that projects with many moving parts can function effortlessly
- Aptitude moving between different administrative tasks and programs with ease
- Finding joy in coordinating complex, constantly shifting details
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel required
- Experience with some combination of Zoom, Basecamp, Google Docs, Tessitura, and/or Canva a plus
- Proficiency with a language other than English is a plus
