About Our Organization

The PPAS FILM MAJOR is a two-year conservatory-style program at The Professional Performing Arts High School in Manhattan, designed to equip the next generation of storytellers with the skills to navigate a digitally-driven world. With industry-grade equipment and hands-on experience, the program fosters meaningful self-expression on screen, and serves as a vital pathway for aspiring storytellers to gain admission to universities, film schools, and the broader industry. Complementing the rigorous standards in PPAS’ legacy arts programs (Dance, Vocal, Drama, and Musical Theater), the new Film Major offers students a new way of sharing their talents with the world.

Job Position Summary

Are you a passionate filmmaker or educator eager to ignite the spark of creativity in young minds? Do you possess a deep understanding of cinema, coupled with the desire to impart your knowledge and experience to the next generation of storytellers? If so, we want to hear from you!

Join our team of dedicated educators as a Teaching Artist for the all new PPAS Film Program. We are currently seeking qualified candidates to lead three distinct classes:

  • Film History, Theory, and Criticism
  • Technical Aspects of Film and TV
  • Filmmaking Production Workshop

Film History, Theory, and Criticism (Mondays, 2pm-4pm):
Guide students through the exciting world of cinema, exploring its evolution, cultural significance, and impact on society.

Technical Aspects of Film and TV (Thursdays, 2pm-4pm):
Equip students with essential skills in lighting, camera operation, and post-production software, preparing them to excel in the industry.

Filmmaking Production Workshop (Fridays, 2pm-4pm):
Mentor students through the entire filmmaking process, from concept to completion, as they bring their creative visions to life in real-world scenarios.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Film Studies, Film Production, or related fields (specific to the class or classes applied for).
  • Proven experience in the respective field of film or television production and/or film theory (specific to the class applied for).
  • Proven experience in educational settings, or with with teen arts programming
  • Strong communication, leadership, and mentoring abilities to engage and inspire students.
  • Passion for fostering a collaborative and inclusive learning environment.

Schedule: Weekly, 2pm-4pm. Class schedules vary, see individual class descriptions for details.
