About Our Organization
New York City Children’s Theater (formerly Making Books Sing) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote children’s literacy and social development through sustainable, accessible professional theater productions and arts-in-education programs.
We reach children and their communities with a wide range of programming, including full-scale productions, small touring shows, interactive workshops and in-school residencies, and engage with them in traditional theater spaces, school auditoriums, classrooms and cultural venues in their neighborhoods.
We demonstrate that engaging young people in the arts has a positive impact on their cognitive, emotional and social development, and furthers a lifelong appreciation of the arts. Job Position Summary
NYCCT will be holding auditions for their multisensory musical, FIVE, on Thursday, February 22nd and Friday, February 23rd 2024.
We are currently hiring Actors-Teaching Artists for FIVE, an interactive multisensory musical designed to serve students with disabilities and the very young. Rehearsals will take place in March 2024 and the show will tour elementary schools and community centers in all five boroughs of New York City.
New York City Children’s Theater currently has a roster of over 30 Teaching Artists. All NYCCT Teaching Artists will participate in paid professional development hours in the areas of trauma-informed and racial justice training.
Roles & Responsibilities
● This is a part-time employee (W-2) position and schedule will fluctuate throughout the season.
● We are looking to hire people specifically with daytime availability.
● We are looking to hire people who either reside in or are comfortable traveling to the Bronx, Staten Island, outer parts of Brooklyn, and Queens.
● NYCCT is requiring all staff to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
● DOE Fingerprinted preferred but not required to apply
● Specialize in working with students in grades Pre-K through 5th
● Trained singers and actors
● One of the two actors must have the ability to play the guitar or ukulele
● At least three years of experience working in a classroom setting with elementary-aged students
● At least three years of experience working in classroom settings with students with disabilities
Teaching Artists Are Paid As Follows:
● Facilitation – $75/hour
● Rehearsals $30/hr for 20 hours
● Meetings & Professional Development – $20/hour **PENDING ON THE PROGRAM
● Other one-time fees are applied for special events and performances.
