Job Position Summary

Arts Education at Park Avenue Armory is searching for Teaching Artists (Teaching Artist Corps) in the Music, Dance, and Visual Arts forms for the 2025 season and beyond. Arts Education at Park Avenue Armory provides unique artistic engagements and creativity-based educational programming for New York City Public School students (ages 8-18 years) surrounding and inspired by Park Avenue Armory Drill Hall Programming, Recital Series, Artists Studios, Public Programs, and building and architectural history. These are part-time positions based on the Armory’s programmatic calendar.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Brainstorming and developing multi-disciplinary curriculum for each Armory artistic program in collaboration with other members of the Teaching Artist Corps
  • Facilitating in-school and onsite workshops; teaching artists co-facilitate workshops with Armory teaching associates and assistants
  • Developing and facilitating long-term residency unit plans in collaboration with partner school teachers
  • Working with Park Avenue Armory Youth Corps, the Armory’s internship program
  • Attendance at Professional Development sessions
  • Providing written reports for workshop and residency experiences

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Practicing artist with an interest in the creation of unconventional art
  • Expertise in own discipline, plus an interest in and affinity for collaboration and facilitation across disciplines
  • A passion for working with NYC Public Schools and students and providing equitable access to the arts
  • Energized by constantly changing curriculum that centers process over product
  • Big plus if you are familiar with languages other than English and have experience creating and facilitating workshops that support MLL communities

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • At least 5 years of teaching experience, including experience working with NYC Public School students
  • Experience crafting culturally responsive curriculum, and awareness of trauma-informed teaching methods
