Job Position Summary
Reel Works seeks Teaching Artist Fellows for our Reel Works in-Schools and Communities program for the 2024-2025 school year. We are looking for artists who bring fresh ideas in media making and education into our program offerings.
Reel Works in-Schools serves students ages 10-24 throughout NYC. Students will learn from a combination of instruction, hands-on experiences, guest speakers and trips, and industry events throughout the school year. Through this workshop, students will express their voices and complete projects displaying clear learning objectives.
The Teaching Artist Fellow will join a community-oriented cohort of educators to collaborate with and learn from, gaining access to additional opportunities through the Reel Works network.

August 2024 – July 2025 (Part-time)
Roles & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
- Plan and facilitate lesson plans and hands-on activities for participants during the workshop.
- Implement Reel Works Curriculum, resources, and standard practices into lesson planning.
- Maintain a positive and creative learning environment.
- Collaborate and Communicate with Reel Works management staff and partner administrators in a professional and consistent manner.
- Report weekly to Reel Works management about classroom activities.
- Support an Assistant Teaching Artist by coaching and providing opportunities for them to be able to lead several lessons.
- Participate in mandatory professional development training from Reel Works’ Teaching Artist University and outside training partners.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma required
- Some college experience in Media, Arts and/or Education preferred
- Proficiency in film/media discipline required
- Multiple languages is a plus
- Education experience in teaching, mentoring, counseling, or equivalent required
- Detail-oriented with excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and writing skills
- A positive role model to students, school staff and fellow Teaching Artists
- Able to navigate Google Suite
Salary: This is a part-time position that does not include health benefits. Teaching Artists should expect to work 15-25 hours per week. Hourly wage commensurate with experience in filmmaking, technical skills, teaching, and youth development. Pay range: $50-85/hr
