Job Position Summary

 WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR IN A TA? 

TEACHING ARTIST COMPETENCIES:  Teaching Artists are evaluated using a responsive rubric based on our TADA! Teaching Artists Competencies. Through this process, we ensure we are serving and supporting the changing needs of our students, schools, and department.

      • Commitment to planning thoughtful, enriching classes with their co-teacher

      • Ability to assess student ability, needs, and interest and adapt and scaffold to create a student centered classroom 
    • Artistic Excellence: Highly trained and versatile musical theater artists that can create a strong product with students of all ages and abilities

  • Versatility in Teaching Modalities: Experience and comfortability teaching in-person and online using Zoom

 

SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Professional training/experience in the musical theater
    • Excellent pianists (Music Directors only)
  • Experience and interest in working with students ages 4-18 
  • Experience and interest in working with students from diverse populations with a wide range of abilities
  • Align with our mission, values, and Teaching Artist Competencies
  • Committed and passionate about musical theater and arts education
  • Current proof of fingerprinting clearance/background check or ability to complete it through the NYC and NY State Department of Education
  • A commitment and deep interest in diversity, equity and inclusion in all aspects of TADA!’s programming and initiatives
  • Multilingual and/or experience working with ENL, SWD, and neurodiverse learners is a plus! 

RATES: Rates vary depending on program type, number of classes, and length of program.  Average hourly rate is between $50-$65.

    • Resume 
    • Cover letter OR 2-3 minute video-recorded statement of interest (introducing yourself and and sharing your arts education, teaching artist, and musical theater experiences) 
    • Complete application 
    • Link to a google folder or YouTube channel with the following videos: 
      • Demonstrate combination (four 8-counts) of musical theater choreography for each of the following ages groups: 4-5 and 8-10
        • Each dance combination should include at least 3 dance steps that you identify before sharing your dance combination.  No need to break down the steps or the combination.  Simply state the age group, the 3 dance steps included in the combination, and then perform the dance combination. 
          • Please choose a different musical theater song for each dance combination that you feel is appropriate and suitable for the age group.
        • Please note: the purpose of the video is to show your understanding of what is developmentally appropriate for each age group.

MUSIC DIRECTORS: 

  • Send the following materials to Katy Knowles, Director of Education at education@tadatheater.com by Friday, November 12th
    • Resume 
    • Cover letter OR 2-3 minute video-recorded statement of interest (introducing yourself and and sharing your arts education, teaching artist, and musical theater experiences) 
    • Complete application 
    • Link to a google folder or YouTube channel with the following videos: 
      • Create a video that demonstrates 3 different vocal warm-ups you feel would be appropriate and successful for ages 4-6 that focus on these skills: 
        • Warm-up #1: Dynamics (1 for ages 4-6)
        • Warm-up #2: Diction (1 for ages 4-6)
        • Warm-up #3: Emotions/Character Choices (1 for ages 4-6)
      • Share a song from the Broadway, movie musical, or Disney canon that you would choose to teach a group of students ages 5-7.  Talk us through why you chose the song for this particular age group, and then play a 1-minute piano piece (melody and accompaniment). 
      • Please note: the purpose of the video is to show your understanding of what is developmentally appropriate for each age group.
