Job Position Summary
YANY’s Teaching Artists (TAs) provide exceptional arts education instruction to students by designing and facilitating multi-session arts residencies working in partnership with classroom teachers and school administrators to customize arts education curricula to meet the needs of the diverse student populations that we serve. TAs demonstrate equal mastery in their art form and in educational practice by designing developmentally appropriate arts education residencies that cultivate students into lifelong learners. Teaching Artists play a vital role in building and sustaining YANY school partnerships. They are a valuable resource to the school community representing YANY and our mission through their work with students and school staff. Teaching Artists report to YANY’s program staff.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Design and lead engaging, developmentally appropriate, and culturally responsive arts residencies for children and/or teenagers
- Attend planning meetings with partner schools in preparation for each residency
- Sustain regular, thorough, and professional communication with YANY program staff throughout each residency
- Work in partnership with classroom teachers and school administrators to plan culminating residency events
- Submit curricular materials, such as lesson plans, evidence of student learning, residency assessments, and reflection documents in a timely fashion
- Generate and submit supply orders for residencies from approved list of YANY vendors
- Submit timely reporting on hours for payroll
- Attend meetings, trainings, professional development workshops, and other program events as requested by program staff
How to Apply
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- At least 2 years’ experience teaching art to young people
- DOE fingerprinting and background clearance (pre-employment)
- Willingness to travel to schools across the 5 boroughs of NYC, particularly the Bronx and Queens
- Bilingual Spanish a plus, but not required
