Are you passionate about dance and eager to inspire young people?

BALLROOM BASIX (BBX) is seeking enthusiastic Teaching Artist Apprentices to help us foster confidence, cooperation, and joy through noncompetitive partner dancing in schools across New York City.

BALLROOM BASIX is an arts-in-education initiative dedicated to enhancing the social, emotional, and physical well-being of schoolchildren through the art of Ballroom and Latin dancing. Over the past 17 years, we’ve positively impacted the lives of more than 40,000 children in over 200 schools throughout NYC. Our motto, “Making manners matter…every move we make!” reflects our commitment to instilling kindness and camaraderie among students.

As a BBX Apprentice, you’ll receive hands-on training both in and out of the classroom. You will:

• Assist experienced Teaching Artists in delivering our trademarked noncompetitive curriculum.
• Participate in (paid) training sessions to learn the partner dance curriculum and the accompanying call-and-response script.
• Learn behavioral strategies, Google Workspace record-keeping, and support community & family engagements.
• 2-5 days/week at various school sites, both in-school (between 8:00 and 2:30pm) and /or after-school (between 2:30 – 4:30).

Requirements:

• A passion for teaching, presentational experience, and a basic understanding of dance/movement.
• Comfort with public transit (bus; subway) for travel to schools across all five boroughs of NYC.
• Commitment to complete the training period (September) and fulfill Fall residency assignments (October – December).

Apprentice Program Expectations:

• Complete 100 paid in-class hours during the Fall season.
• Memorize the BBX class script and learn the syllabus curriculum.
• Communicate regularly with client schools and team/managers.
• Participate in special events; assist with student/staff interviews.

Timeline:

• Join us for a BOOTCAMP (paid training) from Tuesday, 9/2 – Friday, 10/5 (Friday includes an assessment prior to school assignments).
• Residencies run from mid-September to mid-December, with opportunities to advance to Lead Teaching Artist roles.
