Job Position Summary

GlobalArts to Go is in search of Teaching Artists for in-person, NYC-based, afterschool programs for K-8th youth in public schools, charter schools, and community-based organization centers, immediately hiring for arts residencies beginning in January 2022. This is an independent contractor/freelance position. Program sites are located in Brooklyn, Manhattan, The Bronx, and Queens in school & community center spaces. 

Class sizes range from 10-20 youth per group with an assistant teacher/support staff person provided at all sites. We are looking for Teaching Artists in the following dance & arts education genres: 

  • Hip Hip Dance 
  • West African Dance
  • Latin Dance
  • Caribbean Dance
  • Arts & Crafts 
  • Body Percussion
  • Step
  • Beatboxing 
  • Music (Percussion based)
  • Theatre Arts
  • Storytelling
  • STEM thru the ARTS (STEAM)

Roles & Responsibilities

Qualifications:

  • Must have COVID Vaccination proof as mandated by the NYC DOE 
  • Must have NYC DOE Fingerprints (or willing to get done before starting programs)
  • Availability for consistent, weekly, residency classes occurring Mondays-Fridays between 2:30 pm – 6:00 pm from January through June with summer opportunities available. Weekly hours can range between 2 to 15 hours per week in total (based on how many sites you get booked for and your availability)
  • Must have at least 4 years of experience working as a lead Teaching Artist, facilitating hands-on activities with diverse youth populations in school/afterschool settings. 
  • Must have strong group management and communication skills. 
  • Must be able to modify activities as needed to engage and empower diverse youth abilities and diverse learning/communication needs.

Qualified candidates are reliable, timely, and friendly. Have a passion for working with youth in creative ways, sharing different art forms from around the world, and are committed to bringing fun, joy-filled Arts Education activities to historically underrepresented communities.

Compensation varies per site and residency. Typical residency jobs are teaching 2-3 classes per date, per program site. The minimum rate starts at $60 per class.
