Job Position Summary
We are currently seeking experienced Teaching Artists for our Access Opera: Guild Open Rehearsals for Students and HD Live in Schools programs. As opera is a multidisciplinary art form, we welcome applicants from all artistic backgrounds.
Required Skills:
- Demonstrated expertise in at least one artistic discipline (e.g., vocal performance, visual arts, composition, dance)
- Classroom teaching experience, especially at the K-12 level
- Familiarity with NYC public school system
- Weekday availability (8AM-3PM) and ability to travel to outer boroughs of NYC
- Experience working with students of diverse backgrounds, including age, race/ethnicity, class, religion, and familiarity with opera and the performing arts
Bonus Skills:
- Experience writing classroom curricula, either for single lessons or longer residencies
- Commitment to arts-integration and social-emotional learning pedagogy
- Knowledge of opera and opera history
Compensation starts at $60/hour for teaching and facilitation and $40/hour for planning. Additional paid training and observation hours are provided to all TAs, as well as opportunities to provide professional development workshops for educators.

All TAs are contracted as 1099 employees on a per-project basis. Project timelines vary; work within the department generally occurs over the course of the Met’s season from late September to early June.
