Bronx House

About Our Organization

Bronx House is the oldest and longest continuously serving community center in the Bronx. The Heilbrunn School of Music launched in 1912 at Bronx House and has offered music lessons for children and adults for the last 112 years. In recent years, the School has expanded to become a School of Performing Arts with dance and theater programs as well. The Bronx House Older Adult Center, a partner with the NYC Department of Aging, has been operating for more than 50 years. During that time, older adults have been students of the School of Music. In addition, Bronx House offers intergenerational programs that incorporate arts and culture. For example, the annual Chanukah Menorah lighting brings together older adults and children from various Bronx House programs, including the School of Performing Arts, to light the menorah, sing songs and create holiday-related crafts.
