About Our Organization

ArtsConnection (AC) is a non-profit organization that provides arts programs to students in Pre-K through High School in the New York City public schools through project based arts residencies. AC also works with Teens outside of the school setting through our Teen and Student Arts Programs.  To address the educational challenges for the 21st century, ArtsConnection’s research based arts programs create socially just learning environments. Our programs support literacy, communication, creativity, collaboration and critical thinking. ArtsConnection’s partnerships include and strengthen the diverse voices of New York City’s children and youth, cultivating their arts and academic skills for success in a changing world. 

Job Position Summary

ArtsConnection is currently reviewing Teaching Artist applications for hire in 2023! We are looking for artists of a variety of disciplines to work with our K-12 schools throughout all 5 boroughs, with a great need for general/instrumental music, dance and media (music and 3D visual) arts specialists. This is a part time opportunity, Monday-Friday between the hours of 8am and 5pm. Residencies can run from 10-15 weeks, 1-2 times a week. The position involves curriculum development within your art form and developing collaborative goals and incorporating the interests of the school partners and students involved. Pay begins at $57 per hour and increases to $65 after the first 125 hours of work. We offer ongoing professional development and administrative support provided by Program Managers who help to facilitate collaboration between teaching artists and classroom teachers involve in the residency.  

Roles & Responsibilities

Responsibilities 

  • Curriculum development within your art form  
  • Developing collaborative goals incorporating the interests of the school partners and students  
  • Submission of a residency outline/curriculum for your work with the schools 
  • Attend and contirbute to a planning and reflection meeting throughout the course of your residency. 
  • Teach within a NYC Public school for up to 10 weeks, minimum 

 Job Requirements/Qualifications 

  • Professional artist interested in teaching in public schools 
  •  1-2 Years experience teaching children in NYC public school settings 
  • Availability Monday through Friday between 9-5 
  • Ability to commit to a 12-week residency throughout the school year 
  • Create a curriculum responsive to students learning throughout the course of a residency
