Teachers & Writers Collaborative (T&W) partners with New York City schools and community-based organizations to offer dynamic creative writing programs led by professional writers.

Teachers & Writers Collaborative (T&W) seeks to celebrate the imagination by offering innovative creative writing programs and by providing a variety of publications and resources to support learning through the literary arts. Our programs foster self-expression, communication, and life-long love of literature.

Our vision is to create greater equity in and through the literary arts. Through our work, we increase access to arts education, build community, and amplify youth voices.

Job Position Summary

We are currently hiring new Teaching Artists to join our roster, with particular interest in writers with experience teaching poetry, who are willing to travel (as we have partner sites in the five NYC boroughs), and who ideally have already been fingerprinted with the DOE.
Please note, T&W upholds practices in response to Covid-19 in keeping with the DOE. All TAs must be vaccinated to teach, and be able to work in person or remotely in keeping with DOE policy.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Design and execute lesson plans and curricula
  • Collaborate with teachers, facilitators, and students
  • Implement writing exercises pertinent to subject and student body
  • Communicate regularly with full time staff, including written reflections, reports, and plans
  • Be fingerprinted with the DOE
  • Attend annual Professional Development workshops
  • Adhere T&W Core Values
  • Contribute to T&W magazine and attend events as requested/able
  • Conduct evaluations and provide feedback to co-facilitators and staff
