Job Position Summary

We are looking for a Theater Teaching Artist that interested in working with neurodivergent campers ages 5-21 years old! Our program is improv based so it can be accessible to various ages and abilities. Teaching Artist must be willing and able to self-report to Wheatley Heights, Long Island to facilitate this program. This opportunity is a Part-time position on Tuesdays and Thursdays (9am-1pm) from June 30 -August 20th. $175 per session date.

ABOUT THE CAMP
Camp Kehilla, a Sid Jacobson JCC experience, is designed to make the typical camp experience accessible to neurodivergent campers. Our approach allows for a customized summer for children ages 5-21 years with developmental disabilities, Autism spectrum disorder, and/or other neurodevelopmental conditions. By combining typical camp activities such as swimming, arts & crafts, and sports with evidence-based social facilitation techniques, campers have an opportunity to forge friendships and develop social skills in an environment that closely resembles that of a neurotypical setting. The flexible structure of camp promotes the ability for each camper’s individual strengths to flourish, which helps craft a personalized experience for everyone who attends.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Teach a total of 4-5, 30-minute daily activity periods with 5 minute transition time. Activities should promote socialization and expression. 10-15 neurodivergent participants ages 5 – 21 years. (There are 3-5 trained support counselors per group).
  • Lead an energetic “Pump Up” activity at the start of the day for the camp’s bus circle.
  • Facilitate a curriculum that is theme based and celebrates diversity.
  • Attend and complete online trainings with mainstages.
  • Infuse excitement in each lesson with developmentally appropriate games and activities from the mainstages curriculum.
