ESS Community Projects (ESScp) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with the mission of providing high quality educational programming in the Visual Arts to the residents of North Brooklyn, regardless of income or experience. ESScp facilitates onsite art programming at Brooklyn public schools and other community spaces. Our programs include early childhood classes, after school classes, school break workshops, and summer programs, as well as adult classes. Our teaching team consists of practicing artists and master educators, with years of experience facilitating open-ended art investigations that bring together art history, hands-on skill building and problem solving, and the students’ own life experiences. Job Position Summary

We are currently seeking a Studio Assistant/Junior Educator to help with all aspects of running ARTLAB for Tots, Art After School, Family Programs, School Partnerships, and Summer Art Workshops; including administration, studio maintenance, and assistant teaching. This position is a 15-25+ hour/week position, begins immediately, and requires a commitment through at least June 2022.

Studio Assistants work with master Teaching Artists, receive Arts Ed professional development, and can attend adult classes for free. College students and recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

Starting salary: $15+/hour; supplemental pay upon successful completion of trainings.

 

Roles & Responsibilities

Duties include:

  • Working with Teaching Artists to conduct art lessons for school aged students; at our Greenpoint, Brooklyn locations and in local public schools
  • Helping to maintain an organized workspace, including monitoring art supplies and setting up and cleaning up
  • Working with students one on one and in small groups
  • Provide documentation by photographing students and programs
  • Ultimately leading classes according to pre-set curriculum

Qualifications include:

  • Experience working with children, ideally in an arts environment
  • Art and/or art history background
  • Strong interest in a career in arts education
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and ability to communicate well with other educators
  • Organized and meticulous, with the ability to self-direct and seek out tasks
  • Collaborative spirit and sense of humor
  • Able to lift 35 lbs.
