Job Position Summary
Reel Works seeks a Student Teaching Artist for our Reel Works In-Schools Program for the 2021-2022 school year. We are looking for artists who bring fresh ideas in media making and education into our program offerings.
PROGRAM DATES:
October 2021 – June 2022 (Part-time)
Reel Works In-Schools serves middle and high school students throughout NYC. Students will learn from a combination of instruction, hands-on experiences, trips, and conversations throughout the school year.
Roles & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
- Student Teaching Artists support the lead Teaching Artists in the virtual classroom during their residency for a 10-20 week duration. During a residency, they will have an opportunity to lead several lessons and receive 15 hours of professional development training from Reel Works or outside training partners: Ramapo, PASE, DOE, etc. They will also attend development meetings at Reel Works.
Qualifications:
- Background in filmmaking and arts education.
- Able to assist lead Teaching Artist in the facilitation of the class
- Passion for working with school-age children (middle school to high school) in a public school setting
- Some experience in community organizing is helpful, team building and group dynamics
- Create a safe learning environment and open communication for all students from a variety of backgrounds
- Interact in a professional manner with school faculty and administration, parents, and students as well as work with a diverse set of community-based organizations, residents in various communities, institutional and governmental organizations
- Report weekly to supervisors about ongoings in the classroom
- Detail-oriented with excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and writing skills
- Be a positive role model to students, school staff, and fellow Teaching Artists
- Multiple languages is a plus
Salary: $15 per hour. This is a part-time position that does not include health benefits. Hourly wage commensurate with experience in filmmaking, technical skills, teaching, and youth development.
