Job Position Summary
We are seeking Sound Design Instructors with experience in digital music technology, music production, song-writing and podcasting for both semester-long and year-long residency programs in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Experience with music & rhythm theory, audio engineering and live-performance is a plus. The ideal candidate will be a hardworking, reliable and professional teaching artist willing to passionately contribute to the flourishing music production and podcasting culture already in development at our partnering organizations and schools. They will lead high level weekly classes specific to their art form, develop and implement curriculum, support in instilling a value of creative confidence in our youth and maintain a number of administrative and reporting responsibilities and
duties. Sound Design Teaching Artist will be hired for both semester-long and year-long residencies that will start in October 2024 and may continue until June 2025.
Art-Form and Teaching Specific Qualifications:
- Demonstrate strong Sound Design experience – beatmaking, music production, digital music technology knowledge, songwriting, performance, podcasting, etc.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in teaching a diversity of musical genres in order to meet varying student interests.
- Demonstrate strong teaching experience, classroom management and social emotional learning strategies.
- Degree in art-form related field – graduate degree a plus.
- Sense of humor and open spirit. A commitment to critical and engaged pedagogy in order to develop strong, healthy and collaborative relationships with students is paramount.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Lead and teach anywhere from 1-3 sections of Sound Design/Music Proudction that meet anywhere from 1 – 4 times a week depending on the partnership.
- Develop a creative and challenging curriculum alongside the HHREP administration/program management team.
- Maintain attendance, grade and behavioral records.
- Maintain school-wide policies with regards to student cell-phone usage, restroom breaks, etc.
- Follow school-wide restorative justice practices and behavioral management protocols.
- Maintain contact with students in and outside of class to support attendance and student project deadlines. Experience with Google Classroom is a major plus.
- Contribute to planning and promotion of culminating events and Sound Design showcases.
- Support students on creating and maintaining a portfolio of creative work.
- Maintain a class archive/portfolio of student work to be shared with school administration and the greater school community.
