About Our Organization

Creatives Rebuild New York (CRNY), a fiscally sponsored project of Tides, is a time-bound, two-part initiative to support the financial stability of artists across New York State. CRNY provides 300 artists with full-time employment and guaranteed income to 2,400 artists to mitigate the devastating economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.  The organization is seeking a part-time Social Media Manager from January through May 2023.

Job Position Summary

The Social Media Manager, a part time, temporary position, will work to tell the stories of CRNY’s participating artists, organizations, and related content to a diverse range of stakeholders and audiences engaged in issues around employment, labor, financial security, and the social safety net. An excellent writer and communicator, this individual will be responsible for planning and implementing promotional strategies that increase, broaden, and deepen awareness about the labor and livelihoods of artists across New York State. A substantial part of this role includes creating content and designing visual materials using Canva, as well as executing social media campaigns on a variety of web-based platforms. The Social Media Manager is on the front lines of CRNY’s broader communications efforts, and will work closely with the Director of Strategic Impact and Narrative Change while the Writer and Assistant Communications Director is out on family leave. There will also be opportunities to interface with participants in the Artist Employment Program and Guaranteed Income for Artists program.

Roles & Responsibilities

Social Media

  • Oversee the design and management of CRNY social media accounts via Facebook Business Suite in keeping with CRNY’s brand guidelines
  • Develop, curate, and share engaging weekly content across CRNY’s social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter), maintaining a unified voice across different channels while customizing content as appropriate
  • Create and edit written, video, and photo content as needed, including plain-language captions and alt-text for all visual based content
  • Communicate with followers in a way that builds community and camaraderie, responding to comments, inquiries, and direct messages in a timely manner
  • Engage and repost, as appropriate, social media content shared by AEP and GI participants with an eye towards equitable representation across geography, discipline, and demographics
  • Develop and implement campaigns or features to grow CRNY’s audiences in alignment with our organizational values and communications needs
  • Stay up-to-date with current technologies and trends in social media, design tools, and applications
  • Review analytics and create reports on key metrics

E-Newsletter

  • Research, develop, and draft the content for the monthly CRNY e-newsletter, based on the input and evolving needs of CRNY program staff. The current newsletter includes:
    • Recent blog posts
    • Funding opportunities and other resources for artists
    • Round up of recent press coverage
    • “What We’re Reading”
  • Implement best practices with regard to CRNY’s newsletter design, list management, and email optimization (MailChimp)

CRNY Website

  • Maintain and update existing website content as needed (using WordPress)
  • Support CRNY staff to produce regular blog posts, including:
    • Copyediting and proofing content before posting in WordPress
    • Sourcing accompanying images, captions, and alt-text for all posts in accordance with site specifications
  • Update press page on website with select coverage

CRNY News/Media

  • Subscribe to Google News Alerts about Creatives Rebuild New York and other related topics
  • Update internal database of press coverage as it happens
  • Support CRNY Staff in the production of press releases and scheduling of press interviews

Qualifications 

Required

  • Excellent copywriting, editing, and verbal communications skills
  • A strong sense of aesthetics and graphic design
  • Impeccable attention to detail
  • Passion for social media and 3-5 years experience using major social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter) and social media management tools (Facebook Business Suite)
  • Demonstrated ability with audience-specific outreach and promotional strategies
  • Ability to work under pressure, organize work assignments, set priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Diplomatic and collaborative approach to working on time-sensitive issues with diverse groups of individuals
  • Fluency with Canva, WordPress, MailChimp, and Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with Slack, Airtable, Dropbox, OneDrive and other internal team collaboration tools

Preference will be given to candidates who additionally meet the following criteria 

  • Experience working with artists and/or in the non-profit arts sector
  • Passion for and familiarity with issues related to arts advocacy, artist employment, the solidarity economy, guaranteed income, or other creative workforce topics
  • Proficiency with Airtable or other database management software
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree – or equivalent – in marketing, design, or a related field

Hours and Compensation

This is an hourly, part-time position working approximately 20 hours per week at a rate of $22.00/hour, with a generous part-time benefits package available.

The position is a fully remote position, with occasional team meetings that take place in New York City. Please note that this position must accommodate east coast hours regardless of location; preference will be given to candidates located in New York State given the geographic focus of Creatives Rebuild New York.
