About Our Organization

The Graham School is the oldest professional school of dance in the United States and the only one primarily focused on the Martha Graham Technique and repertory.

Classes are taught by faculty who are current or former members of the Martha Graham Dance Company, and who trained with Martha Graham herself or with her first-generation acolytes.

Dancers studying at the Graham School have moved on to professional dance careers with the Martha Graham Dance Company, Paul Taylor Dance Company, Jose Limón Dance Company, Buglisi Dance Theatre, and the Battery Dance Company, as well as on Broadway and with other companies across the world.

Job Position Summary

The Martha Graham School seeks a School Assistant. You should have the skills to communicate with various people, handle logistics, and keep all educational programs running. This is a front-facing position and includes interfacing with the community including parents, children, and other clients.

Roles & Responsibilities

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Handle scheduling, record-keeping and reporting to manage data systems and data reporting for Program Directors and School Director
  • Work with School Director and School staff to document school curriculum, to ensure systematic, proactive, and efficient operations within the School, and between the School, Martha Graham Dance Company and Center
  • Assist in planning, logistics and execution of lecture demonstrations, school showings, events and graduation
  • Maintain systems for managing facilities and studio equipment
  • Ensure that systems, protocols and policies are well documented and easily accessible
  • Other responsibilities assigned by the School Director

Education and Experience

  • B.A. or equivalent degree preferred
  • Two years of experience in Arts Administration preferred
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft and Excel, Populi (or SIS and LMS) experience preferred
  • Commitment to serving the artistic mission
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings as needed

This is a full-time mid-level position with benefits including paid vacation and health insurance. The School Assistant reports to the School Director.
