Job Position Summary
Dance/NYC seeks a coordinator to oversee Dance/NYC’s research and advocacy portfolio of activities, including an upcoming State of NYC Dance and Workforce Demographics Research Report; achieve planned program deliverables funded through June 2023; and to identify and manage additional actionable opportunities for future years.
Status: Full-Time, At-Will, Non-Exempt

The Dance/NYC office is completely remote until further notice due to the Coronavirus (or “COVID-19”) Pandemic. When the time is right, Dance/NYC will be shifting into a hybrid of remote and in-person work, per New York State Guidelines. Because Dance/NYC only serves the 5 boroughs of New York City and surrounding counties, Dance/NYC is only recruiting cultural workers who are based in this geographic area.
Roles & Responsibilities
1) Research (45%)
Reporting to the Executive Director and Senior Manager of Programming and Justice Initiatives oversee the execution of all of Dance/NYC’s research priorities. Primary activities involve liaising with independent contractors and interns to:
- Develop and refine research methodology and manage project timeline;
- Prepare data and interpret findings;
- Secure content contributions and compile research components;
- Identify top trends and recommendations;
- Develop and support in the execution of research related convening, including but not limited to town halls, task force, and/or committee meetings;
- Gather stakeholder feedback;
- Lead all aspects of report production (e.g. design, editing, printing);
- Provide administrative support in report promotion; and
- Create strategies for the dissemination and implementation of research.Specifically, during Fiscal Years 2021-2023, the Research and Advocacy Coordinator will prioritize the following research deliverables:
● Overseeing the State of NYC Dance Workforce Demographics and Dance Worker Census Report data collection, convenings, project management, and publishing to begin January 2022 through June 30, 2023.
- Manage dissemination and recruitment for surveys and census;
- Lead regular meetings with the research team;
- Oversee, independent contractors for the project including research consultant,graphic designer, community organizers and canvassers;
- Oversee partnerships with fiscal sponsors to enable the sharing of data;
- Work in collaboration with Programs Team to organize 6-8 town halls which willbe used for qualitative data collection;
- Ensure the report’s digital and paperback publication, as well as ensuring one pager summaries are published in Mandarin and Spanish, to be made available on Dance.NYC’s website;
- Coordinating with the communications team to oversee communication partnerships and produce a press release and any marketing materials including a campaign to spur recruitment; and
- Liaise with taskforce for community feedback and input on research methodology and findings.2) Advocacy and Community Organizing (40%)
- Draft and present testimony and/or appeal letters for relevant City Council hearings, State Legislation, and Federal Legislation, and/or advocacy efforts as they arise;
- Coordinate with national and local advocacy partners, such as Nonprofit New York and their Nonprofit Advocacy Coalition Steering Committee which we are a member of, New Yorkers for Culture & Arts, Stonewall 50 Consortium, Dance/USA among others, on advocacy efforts;
- Coordinate with Communications team for the dissemination of Advocacy Alerts across Dance/NYC’s networks, including distribution of segmented communications to internal lists;
- Lead regular field-wide calls and oversee the development and upkeep of resources on Dance.NYC focused on advocacy, racial justice, and emergency response; and
- Advise and assist Senior Manager of Programming and Justice Initiatives, Dance/NYC’s initiatives on disability, immigration, and racial justice matters including the management of the Disability. Dance. Artistry. Task Force, Immigrants. Dance. Arts. Task Force, Dance Workforce Resilience Task Force, and Justice, Equity, and Inclusion Partners as those groups intersect with research and advocacy related goals and programs;3) General Administration (10%)
- Provide relevant data for grant proposals and reports to initiative funders;
- Manage Dance/NYC’s ongoing use of demographic data questions and licensingthrough SMU DataArts across all organizational apartments;
- Work in partnership with other organizational departments, as relevant, onprogrammatic offerings and or in the development of organizational collateral spotlighting Dance/NYC’s impact in the sector and research and advocacy work and/or beneficiaries;
- Develop and manage record keeping protocols and materials for the preservation of institutional knowledge and learning in the area of research and advocacy;
- Identify research- and or advocacy-related opportunities and/or grants that expand Dance/NYC’s capabilities in these areas; and
- Work collaboratively with staff to execute on additional organizational priorities as they arise
3) Justice, Equity and Inclusion (5%)
Prioritize ongoing learning on justice, equity and inclusion:
- Regularly engage in learning focused on Justice, Equity, and Inclusion (includingbut not limited to racism, xenophobia, ableism);
- Apply learning(s) on Justice, Equity, and Inclusion within the role and in themanagement of projects and/or staff/collaborators; and
- Uphold Dance/NYC’s values and practices in every aspect of work execution.

Ideal candidates will:

- ● Have lived and learned experience in issues of justice, equity, and inclusion, especiallymatters related to race, disability, and/or immigration.
- ● Have relevant research and advocacy experience and a demonstrated capacity forcommunity organizing.
- ● Be future focused, data-driven, strategy-minded, and thrive in fast-paced startupenvironments.
- ● Be methodical and detail oriented, with excellent writing, planning, and timemanagement skills, and able to advance multiple projects simultaneously while meetingdeadlines.
- ● Be current on and comfortably engage with emerging technologies and demonstrate acommitment to technology solutions in the social enterprise space.
- ● They will be comfortable working with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps and havean aptitude for working with online and mobile applications.
- ● Be versed in the dance and culture landscape and have a wide cross-sector network.
- ● Fluency in a foreign language is desired, but not required.
