Teachers & Writers Collaborative Inc. (T&W) was founded in 1967 with the belief that professional writers could make a unique contribution to the teaching of writing and literature. T&W programs include writing workshops for students and seniors, professional development for educators, managing the NYS Poetry Out Loud and NYS Youth Poet Laureate programs, and publishing Teachers & Writers Magazine and other resources about the teaching of creative writing. We seek a full-time Program Coordinator to help grow our small, thriving nonprofit.

Job Position Summary

Location: This is a hybrid position which requires in-person attendance at some programs, meetings and events in New York City and surrounding areas. Other work can be completed remotely. The office of Teachers & Writers Collaborative is located in the Flatiron District of Manhattan at 20 West 20th Street.
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours/week during business hours with occasional evening and weekend programming.

Although we may consider exceptional candidates without all of the following qualifications, the ideal candidate would have 2+ years’ experience with project management and some education experience. Strong interpersonal and communications skills are vital.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS Degree or 5+ years of equivalent experience
  • Two years of experience in a professional, preferably non-profit, environment
  • Experience working with marginalized communities with an anti-oppressive lens
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to help drive projects to completion and multi-task
  • Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills. Ability to use good judgment, take initiative and make recommendations in resolving problems and provide guidance to staff
  • Computer-proficient; proficient with Excel/Google Sheets; ability to learn pertinent agency software and database programs (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive, Salesforce, Network for Good).
  • Experience with Network for Good, Salesforce and/or similar database
  • Ability to work from home and travel to school locations, in New York City and the surrounding area.

Roles & Responsibilities

Under supervision of the T&W Education Director, the Program Coordinator will:

  • Track program data using our Salesforce database: enter and update data and generate reports as needed.
  • Work with the Education Director to support our programs and teaching artists, including but not limited to:
    • Email communications with teaching artists
    • Support Teaching Artists: troubleshoot problem areas that arise in the classroom, and provide techniques, materials, and planning ideas to assist in their teaching
    • Managing dissemination and collecting of program-related paperwork, including invoices, calendars, lesson plans and curricula
    • Coordinating the preparation, proofing, and publication of student work.
    • Plan and facilitate teaching artist meetings and trainings, participate in hiring and onboarding
    • Develop new initiatives that will expand T&W’s reach
    • Assist with marketing efforts for T&W programs and reach out to potential new partners in locations in and outside of New York City.
  •  Contributing to the coordination of Poetry Out Loud events (requires increased in-person office support in January/February)
  • Coordinate events, such as readings, workshops, or panel discussions, to support and highlight the creative work of teaching artists.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and contribute to org-wide strategic planning.
  • Assist in T&W’s general operations, as needed.

Teachers & Writers Collaborative offers a competitive salary and benefits, commensurate with experience and skills. The salary range for this position is $55,000 – $62,000 annually, and a benefits package including paid time off, health care, professional development opportunities and potential for growth within the organization.
