Powerhouse Arts (PHA) is a not‑for‑profit creative production center in Gowanus, Brooklyn. We bring artists, fabricators, educators, and neighbors together—and connect them to the tools, spaces, and support they need to express themselves and sustain their practices. Every program, rental, and partnership helps fund our creative mission.

Job Position Summary

Powerhouse Arts (PHA) is seeking Teaching Artists for summer (July and August) and fall (October and November) to lead PHA Learning one-off workshops and multi-session classes at our facility located at 322 3rd Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11215.

PHA Learning
PHA Learning offers hands-on training in visual art-making for individuals at all skill levels. Designed for those looking to expand their creative toolkits, our classes and workshops are led by practicing artists who are passionate about their craft and fostering dynamic learning spaces at Powerhouse Arts and beyond. Classes and workshops are offered at a sliding scale rate with a low cost minimum in order to eliminate financial barriers to participation in the arts. Classes and workshops take place in our second floor classrooms on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with class sizes limited to 12 adult students. Students do not have access to our fabrication shops or community studios, including their tools and equipment. Classrooms consist of worktables, stools, drying racks, and storage only.

Teaching Artists
PHA Learning Teaching Artists have active creative practices in the materials and techniques that they teach. Teaching Artists are compensated at a rate of $100 per teaching hour.

The visual arts mediums that we are currently accepting for this summer and fall include:

  • Zines e.g. content creation, design, printing
  • Bookbinding e.g. coptic, case, leather binding
  • Cyanotype e.g. photograms, toners, experimental
  • Figure Drawing e.g. pencil, watercolor, acrylic, mixed media
  • Painting e.g. non-oil-based
  • Collage e.g. paper, fabric, mixed media, digital
  • Sculpture e.g. wax, papier-mâché, mixed media
  • Fiber Art e.g. abstract, conceptual, figurative
  • Digital Art & Tools e.g. Adobe Creative Suite, open source alternatives
  • Creative Coding e.g. interactive art, digital installations

The deadline to apply is March 15, 2026 at 11:59pm.

Our team at Powerhouse Arts is made up of artists, fabricators, administrators, and other staff members dedicated to supporting the needs of working artists.
