Teachers & Writers Collaborative Inc. (T&W) was founded in 1967 with the belief that professional writers could make a unique contribution to the teaching of writing and literature. T&W seeks to educate the imagination by offering innovative creative writing programs for students and teachers, and by providing a variety of publications and resources to support learning through the literary arts. T&W programs include creative writing workshops for youth, art workshops for seniors, teacher training, managing the NYS Poetry Out Loud competition, and publishing Teachers & Writers Magazine, books and other resources for teaching creative writing. Job Position Summary
T&W seeks an Office Manager to provide administrative support to T&W’s bookkeeping, human resources, fundraising, publications, and general office operations. The Office Manager is a professional who is invested in T&W’s mission to increase access and equity in the literary arts, who has strong communication skills, work ethic, and a can-do attitude. The Office Manager is excited to be stretched with new tasks and challenges, while maintaining a philosophy that all tasks are important enough to be done well, no matter how small.
The Office Manager supports all staff at T&W and will report to the Executive Director. Tasks and responsibilities will vary greatly throughout the year as organizational need and activities change.
Although we may consider exceptional candidates without all of the following qualifications, the ideal candidate will have 5+ years’ experience in an administrative role. Strong writing skills and a demonstrated interest in the literary arts preferred.
Qualifications
- Five years of experience in a professional, preferably non-profit, environment
- Demonstrated excellence in organizational skills and attention to detail
- Demonstrated project management skills; ability to drive projects to completion and multi-task
- Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills. Ability to use good judgment, take initiative and make recommendations in resolving problems and provide guidance to staff
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel
- Experience with WordPress, social media platforms
- Experience with CRMs/Donor management databases (Network for Good or similar)
- Experience with Adobe Acrobat

Teachers & Writers Collaborative offers a competitive salary and benefits, commensurate with experience and skills. Salary range for this position: $50 – $60,000 annually and benefits.
NOTE: This is NOT a remote position. Currently T&W staff are working on a hybrid remote/in-person schedule. Because of the nature of this work, the Office Manager will be expected to report to work at our Manhattan office at least 2-3 days / week. Only applicants in the NYC metropolitan area will be considered. The office of Teachers & Writers Collaborative is located in the Flatiron District of Manhattan at 20 West 20th Street.

Roles & Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions
Office Administration
- Manages office infrastructure, including phone system, computer network and workstations, furniture, equipment, and ordering supplies
- Ensures appropriate organizational insurance coverage
- Oversees HR functions and benefits administration, including overseeing payroll processing, tracking paid leave, onboarding and offboarding of employees
- Supports bookkeeper budget/finance operations: accounts payable and receivable, reconciling credit card statements, preparing reports and materials for annual audit
- Support executive director in Board activity, such as scheduling meetings and preparing reports
- Maintain T&W mailing list using Network for Good database and supports staff in fundraising activities, including tracking donations in donor database, and preparing mailings
- Supports staff in planning and staffing any T&W events
- Open and distribute mail; Respond to inquiries to T&W’s main email address.
Publications
- Support the T&W Magazine editorial board by maintaining our publishing calendar, securing copyrights, and managing any reprint requests
- Managing occasional requests/inquiries related to T&W books, such as ordering review copies or fielding reprint requests.
General Staff Support
- Supervise T&W social media intern, ensure T&W website is current
- Coordinate meetings and events
- Provide general administrative support, as needed
