Broadway for Arts Education (BAE) is an NYC-based nonprofit organization that uses arts education to dismantle systemic barriers to success for underserved youth. Partnering with the Broadway community, schools, and organizations around the world, BAE acts as a catalyst for change and social impact. BAE’s curriculum empowers youth to achieve their potential, engage in real-world issues, and become life-long learners and active participants in their communities.

Our Teaching Artists create safer and braver spaces for students to engage in necessary risk-taking, utilizing the arts as advocacy for self and community, and cultivating a better tomorrow through actions today.

Job Position Summary

Broadway for Arts Education (BAE) seeks industry professionals to lead our in-school programs for Acting high school students in New York City for both part-time. The Musical Theater Teaching Artist Residents will work with other members of the programming team on curriculum development and implementation, special events and field trips, program evaluations, and performances. We are looking for candidates who can begin teaching in January 2023 to fulfill a range of schedules that run parallel to the New York City Public School academic calendar. BAE offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience. All employees must fulfill all partner safety requirements as outlined by the Department of Education (DOE) including proof of vaccination.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Develop structured activities, lesson plans, and syllabi in relation to the BAE curriculum guidelines and core values of living in the orange (healthy risk-taking), arts as advocacy, and working towards a better tomorrow as well as the Gold Standard criteria for Project Based Learning
  • Maintain a structured environment that is conducive to promoting creativity and learning
  • Promote interest and participation in the program
  • Assist in the production and coordination of special events
  • Participate in the coordination and supervision of public performances and field trips
  • Availability to commit to a full school-year of courses and programming
  • Attend periodic professional development workshops and staff meetings
  • Submit key lesson plans in advance, with a suggested reference to BAE developed rubrics for an effective, culturally responsive art education spaces
  • Maintain clear safety protocols as per the design of the program
  • Share enthusiasm and passion about areas of expertise
  • Regularly communicate with Program Coordinator and Program Manager and identify support needed for a safe and thriving classroom
