Job Position Summary

The Museum Experience Ambassador (MEA) role is an entry-level position that combines working as a key member of the Front of House Team with a professional development program aimed at opening pathways to careers in the cultural sector. Ambassadors are the primary representatives of the QM and are the visitors’ first point of contact. They create a positive and welcoming environment in all public-facing areas and are responsible for facilitating an enjoyable experience at the QM. They provide every visitor of the Museum with a welcoming greeting upon arrival and work proactively to ensure that visitors have access to key information about the QM’s exhibitions and programs.

Ambassadors engage with visitors in the galleries, through interpersonal interactions and guided tours to build community relationships with the QM.

The QM’s Ambassador Professional Development Program provides meaningful exposure to all aspects of museum work through fully-paid, on-the-job learning. Ambassadors rotate between QM departments to identify career goals and build professional job skills and knowledge of best museum practices. The program provides Ambassadors with the early career employment experience needed to advance their careers in the cultural sector. Professional Development sessions led by QM staff, such as job and interview readiness are provided with the aim of equipping Ambassadors with the resources needed to seek out career opportunities aligned with individual goals.

The Queens Museum seeks energetic and outgoing individuals with a passion for community, art, and culture, working with diverse publics, collaboration, and learning. Ideal candidates will be team players with strong interpersonal and communications skills and prior work experience in Customer/Guest Services, the Hospitality Industry, and/or Museum Visitor Services. Bilingual and Multilingual individuals and residents of Queens are strongly encouraged to apply.

Essential Functions

  • Support the Front of House team in all operational aspects including ticketing, admissions, wayfinding, line facilitation, school and group tours, exhibition and event support
  • Create a warm and welcoming QM; greet and enthusiastically welcome every visitor of the Queens Museum upon arrival
  • Proactively interact and engage with all visitors of the Queens Museum in the galleries and public-facing areas
  • Inform all Museum visitors of the unique exhibitions, educational experiences, and public programs happening at the Queens Museum
  • Serve as a key knowledge holder and informational resource; keep up-to-date on the QM’s programmatic offerings and other cultural attractions and community resources located in Flushing-Meadows Corona Park
  • Proactively offer wayfinding support; provide visitors an orientation of the building and
  • Ensures that appropriate actions are taken to resolve visitor concerns and questions
  • Lead tours of the Panorama of the City of New York and exhibitions on view
  • Support the Operations team in the setup, facilitation, and break-down of special events
  • Provide assistance to the Exhibitions and Programs Team during installations periods
  • Support the Programs teams in the setup, facilitation, and breakdown of weekend workshops
  • Ensures the organization and tidiness of FOH/ Assigned work areas
  • Ensure that visitors are aware of pertinent COVID-19 health and safety guidelines
  • Administer visitor surveys to all visitors (as needed)
  • Participate in the museum-wide training program and invest time working in each department
  • Attend regular all-staff meetings and training sessions
  • Other related duties as assigned by management

Requirements

  • Prior working experience in Hospitality, Guest & Concierge Services, and/or Museum Visitor Experience
  • Spanish, Mandarin, Bangla, and ASL language skills are strongly desired
