About Our Organization
The New York City Arts in Education Roundtable is a service organization and a community of arts education practitioners that shares information, provides professional development, and communicates with the public to promote our work in schools and beyond. The Roundtable produces a major annual conference, Face to Face; monthly professional development programs; a destination website; and other activities, in addition to ongoing advocacy and communications efforts to improve and advance the state of arts education.
Job Position Summary
The Mentorship Coordinator is a Part-Time position working mostly remote (with some in-person days) to support the NYC Arts in Education Roundtable’s New York State Teaching Artist Mentorship Program. The position is open until filled, but preference will be given to those candidates who apply on or before Monday, December 18, 2023. This role will be integral to helping the Roundtable grow this regranting program by coordinating logistics, scheduling, and communications in addition to serving as the staff point person for all mentors, mentees, and program partners involved.
About New York State Teaching Artist Mentorship Program
The NYC Arts in Education Roundtable is proud to launch the third cohort of the New York State Teaching Artist Mentorship Program. This regrant opportunity seeks to proactively help mid-career Teaching Artists from across the state develop the networks, skills, and increased capacities necessary to support career advancement and sustainability. The formalized program will pair mid-career Teaching Artists from communities historically underrepresented in the arts education field with a mentor educator or arts leader. In addition to one-on-one mentorship, selected artists will participate in curated professional learning opportunities, informational interviews with experts in the field, field hours in line with their desired learning goals, and other opportunities designed to promote their work and sustainability in the field. Each participating Teaching Artist will be awarded $2,200 to support their participation in the program. To broaden the learning, this project will also include professional development workshops aimed at teaching artist sustainability curated in partnership with the Roundtable’s Teaching Artist Affairs Committee. The NYC Arts in Education Roundtable’s New York Teaching Artist Mentorship Program is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
Roles & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Coordinate mentorship application process including building application in Submittable, liaising with applicants, scheduling review panelists, co-hosting information sessions with Executive Director, and organizing materials for review.
- Attend, lead, and support Mentorship-related meetings with staff and participants.
- Meet with staff and Executive Director weekly to discuss project updates and next steps.
- Liaise and oversee communications between mentees, mentors, staff, and additional program partners.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to maintain and track mentee and mentor honorarium payments.
- Manage mentee application panel review process to be conducted via Submittable.
- Communicate with participants to ensure that all accessibility needs are honored during the program.
- Support with mentor outreach and selection process.
- Collaborate with Roundtable staff to ensure participants are registered for virtual professional development offerings.
- Coordinate scheduling of first mentee/mentor meetings and other program-related meetings and/or opportunities.
- Manage pre- and post-session assessment to support learning goals associated with the program.
- Organize virtual informational interviews with experts curated based on interests of participating teaching artists.
- Conduct midway check-ins with mentees to assess need and progress in the program.
- Schedule and conduct post-program exit interviews with mentors to understand their experience and how the program could be improved.
- Support with ideas for mentors and teaching artist professional development sessions.
- Collaborate with Roundtable staff to ensure the mentorship program reflects the mission and values of the Roundtable.
- Develop pathways for meaningful re-engagement with past program participants to support continued connection, networking, and support.
- Draft press releases and final report related to the Mentorship Program in partnership with Operations Manager.
- Brainstorm ways that the program can evolve to best support Teaching Artist workforce sustainability.
- Undertake other reasonable tasks not specifically described herein in order to ensure the efficient, smooth functioning of all aspects of the Mentorship program and organization-wide convenings where full-staff support is needed.
- Provide on-site support during full-staff events where program participants may be present, including Face to Face (4/24-4/25) and annual Arts Education Job Fair (TBD – May 2024).
