Hook Arts Media has 30+ years experience offering transformative arts and media education to BIPOC youth from historically disinvested communities throughout New York City. With school-based arts and media programs, afterschool/summer training, and expanded workforce training programs, we recruit and engage teens through in-school inquiry-based arts education, teach in-depth skills through stipended afterschool and summer media programs, and prepare them for further education and employment. We engage 600 teens annually; measurably increase students’ attendance, and school engagement; and help them to advance into higher education and rewarding careers. Alumni attend graduate film programs at USC, Columbia, NYU, teach at HAM, and serve on our Board.

Job Position Summary

Hook Arts Media is seeking experienced media educators for in school and after school programming in 2024-2025 academic year.

Hook Arts Media offers in school programming at NYC transfer high schools and afterschool community-based media programs at its facility in Red Hook Brooklyn.

Ideal candidates will have significant experience (3+ years) facilitating video production curricula to teens in public school settings or community-based media programs. Strong classroom management skills, a good sense of humor and facility with film equipment and film editing programs is mandatory. Experience in multi-disciplinary arts settings including performing arts is a plus. Candidate should have previous experience in teaching video production to teens.

Roles & Responsibilities

Hook Arts Media Media Educators will work at NYC public transfer high schools and/or one of HAM’s year round community-based media programs in Red Hook, Brooklyn. In school classes generally take place three days a week during the 2024-2025 academic year. Community-based media programs run two days a week in spring for 7 weeks and a Summer Digital Boot Camp runs 20 hours a week July-August. Media Educators will train in implementing HAM’s media curriculum and be placed in one of HAM’s media programs where they will teach video production to teens and young adults. Candidates should be proficient in the use of film equipment, sound recording and Adobe Premiere Editing software.
