Formed in 2015, the College of Performing Arts draws together Mannes School of Music, the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music, and the School of Drama. The over 1,100 students at CoPA are actors, musicians, performers, writers, improvisers, creative technologists, entrepreneurs, composers, arts managers, and multidisciplinary artists. Students and faculty at CoPA collaborate with colleagues across The New School in a wide array of disciplines, from the visual arts and fashion design, to the social sciences, public policy, advocacy, and more.

Job Position Summary

The College of Performing Arts (CoPA) at The New School is seeking a highly qualified Manager of Performance and Event Communications. Reporting to Associate Dean of Production, the Manager is directly responsible for promoting the approximately 1,000 public events per year that are presented by the Mannes School of Music, the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music, and the School of Drama, including mainstage productions, operas, musicals, ensemble concerts and student recitals, external performance partnerships, and special events. This role coordinates with CoPA’s Deans Council to define and execute the marketing and communication strategy for audience engagement, as well as collaborates with The New School’s central Marketing and Communications, Enrollment Management, Development, Public Programs, and Alumni Relations departments to facilitate integration within those systems.

The Manager of Performance and Event Communications is a strong collaborator who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced, and highly team-oriented environment. The Manager will take initiative and will approach their work with professionalism and collegiality. They will demonstrate integrity and honesty within their work with colleagues across CoPA and the university.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Oversee production of all event assets from design to distribution. This includes but is not limited to programs, posters, digital assets, season calendars, social media posts, event listings on the university’s events marketing platform, and the events newsletter.
  • Foster media relationships, draft press releases and media alerts, and identify promotional opportunities with organizational partners.
  • Collaborate with front of house staff to reach new audiences through enhanced accessibility and patron support.
  • Oversee ticketing and box office for events at outside venues
  • Supervise streaming activities across multiple platforms, including liaising with event organizers on licensing/sync rights and collecting and managing image releases for participants.
  • Organize and execute event-related photo and video shoots, including asset and release management.
  • Participate in quality control of branded materials. Educate students, faculty, and staff regarding brand guidelines and quality standards.
  • Hire, manage, and supervise hourly employees, freelance designers and creatives, and student workers.
  • Attend and participate in meetings, committees, working groups, and training as assigned.
  • Remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as directed by the supervisor.
