Little Island is a beautiful, welcoming, and unique public park and public art space located in Hudson River Park at 13th/14th St. With its one-of-a-kind design and dynamic offerings and experiences, Little Island invites all New Yorkers to experience a public space that is designed to ignite imagination, foster spontaneity and play, and support camaraderie and connection. Job Position Summary

Little Island Fellowship Program

Little Island is hiring four summer Fellows for its annual Fellowship Program. Each summer, Fellows are assigned to a specific department that aligns with their career goals and will provide direct and hands-on support to their team. Throughout the summer, Little Island Fellows will participate in regular workshops focused on career readiness and resilience, and will also connect with professionals within the Little Island network. This year’s open Fellowship positions are for our Education Programs, Employee Experience, Events and Communications, and Operations Fellows.

The ideal candidate is someone in the early stages of their chosen field with good instincts, a passion for public spaces, and an enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced nonprofit environment. They exhibit curiosity, value relationship-building in their work, and have a collaborative and motivated mindset. All Fellows will work both in an office and outdoors at the park in all types of weather.

  • Hourly Rate: $18.50
  • Job Type: Temporary
  • Schedule Expectations: 40 hours/week for 13 weeks, with the flexibility to work evenings and weekends depending on the needs of the department
  • Projected Start Date: May 31st 2022
  • Projected End Date: August 26th 2022
  • Employment Duration: If employed in a temporary position, candidates should note that they will need to reapply for any future positions and there is no presumption for rehire or reoccurring employment in subsequent seasons.

This program is designed for people who are at least 21 years old and are either:

  • Currently enrolled in a CUNY program OR
  • Recently graduated from a CUNY program (2 years or less) OR
  • An alumni of a Little Island Workforce Development Program

Roles & Responsibilities

Education Programs Fellow

The Education Programs Fellow will support our education and community programs and systems by:

  • Providing administrative and operational support to the Education and Community Relations department, as assigned
  • Supporting Teaching Artists and Artists in Residence with weekly Creative Breaks (set up and break down of learning spaces for educational programming; actively engaging with participants; monitoring flow and capacity of the event)
  • Connecting all park visitors with Art, Nature, and Community
  • Acting as a co-facilitator and substitute Teaching Artist for Creative Breaks and other workshops as needed
  • Helping cultivate closer connections to the local community, with the intention to amplify the department’s mission to engage, educate, and employ the community.
  • Supporting program evaluation (administering surveys, daily reports and pragmatic logistics)

Employee Experience Fellow

The Employee Experience Fellow will support the recruitment, staff development, and staff communications and experiences at Little Island by:

  • Providing logistical and facilitation support during Little Island’s training, onboarding and staff development workshops
  • Supporting the Employee Experience Associate on the day-to-day operations of our employee spaces, ensuring a standard of excellence and continuity of experience across all amenities
  • Coordinating and leading employee events and initiatives in service to building camaraderie and connections across all Little Island staff
  • Scheduling, coordinating, and participating in interviews at Little Island as needed
  • Supporting the Employee Experience Manager and other members of the Administrative department on other projects or duties as assigned

Events and Communications Fellow

The Events and Communications Fellow will support the communications, performances, and events surrounding our dynamic season by:

  • Acting as an onsite ambassador for partners, performers, and events in the park. This includes leading tours of the space, supporting with artist hospitality, and coordinating onsite logistics for events across various departments
  • Providing social media marketing support by capturing content in the park, drafting posts, and monitoring and replying to digital inquiries from visitors
  • Supporting the Communications department with the drafting and proofreading communications materials.
  • Assisting in the execution of Little Island’s ticketing systems. This includes running reports, processing ticket orders, and the distribution of pre/post-show communications with audiences.
  • Performing administrative tasks for the Artistic Programming and Executive departments as needed

Operations Fellow

The Operations Fellow will support our Park Operations, Visitor Experience, and Horticulture teams by:

  • Providing administrative support to the Operations department by reconciling expenses and invoices, updating and posting park signage, adding scheduled repairs and work to a work order and scheduling software
  • Assisting in the creation of a Little Island Plant Guide. Responsibilities include taking, compiling, and organizing photographs of blooms/seasonal interest throughout the summer
  • Supporting the Visitor Experience and Horticulture staff members in the field with hands-on projects as assigned
  • Ordering, restocking and distributing park operations supplies, conducting regular walkthroughs of the space to ensure a high standard of care
  • Supporting the upkeep of staff resources, such as walkie-talkies, IT equipment, supplies, tools, and uniforms
  • Performing research and administrative tasks as on behalf of the Operations department as assigned

Life at Little Island • Park employees will spend time onsite at Little Island working in outdoor weather conditions, navigating the entire park multiple times a day, and interacting with park visitors to ensure operations are running effectively.
