The Intrepid Museum seeks a Lead Teaching Artist/Educator versed in the integration of the arts into traditional content areas. As a part of the Lifelong Learning Team, position will work primarily on the development, delivery and evaluation of artistic experiences and programming for children and adults at the Museum, virtually and at offsite locations. The Lead Teaching Artist/Educator will collaborate with colleagues within the Education Department as well as professional staff in curatorial, development, and museum services departments on programs, events and Museum logistics.

As part of the wider Education team, secondary responsibilities of this position include delivering general onsite or virtual programs for K-12 groups, adults, seniors, libraries, and community centers as well as Access programs for children and adults with disabilities.

This position requires creativity, energy, empathy, outstanding organization, strong presentation skills, the ability to function in a truly unique shared/collaborative workspace with a large and diverse staff embodying a variety of working styles, and a passion for creating and performing arts-based works.

Specific projects assigned to this position in the immediate are:

• Outreach for, development of, delivery and evaluation of the NEH funded Crossing the Line program, a 10-session research, writing and performance residency program for teens (concluding in September 2022).
• Developing and implementing several onsite or virtual Family Programs on an annual basis, which incorporate both Museum exhibitions and STEAM elements.
• Developing age appropriate arts-based experiences, artistic expressions of exhibits, and performances aimed at museum-goers of varying ages, nationalities and abilities, for both live and virtual audiences.
• Coordinating with the head of Access Initiatives to advise on recruitment and training of contract teaching artists related to programming for older adults with dementia and their caregivers.
• Writing clear program outlines and providing coaching to wider Education Department staff to assist with delivery as needed.
• Accurate record keeping of all required data points essential for reflection and reporting.
• Representing the Museum at teacher events, fairs, conferences, and community events.

Requirements:

• A minimum of a Bachelors of Arts or Sciences
• Background in History, Arts Education or Theater
• Minimum 2-3 years of proven arts-rich education experience in school, educational or museum setting
• Demonstrable and strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects
• Ability and willingness to travel to offsite locations as needed
• Ability to work both independently and in an energetic and collaborative environment
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings as necessary
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Proficient computer knowledge, including Microsoft and Google tools
• Bilingual or multilingual a plus
