Job Position Summary

This is an excellent position for someone with experience in team management, classroom management, and organization, who loves working with young children in a collaborative and supportive environment, and is seeking a consistent part-time afternoon schedule.

  • You are experienced in early childhood education (particularly classroom settings with 3K & PreK)
  • You are organized and great at coordinating among a small program staff, school staff, and management.
  • You are knowledgeable about the needs, challenges, and development of ages 3-7
  • You are a collaborative and flexible team member and an excellent communicator.
  • You are patient, positive, and passionate.
  • You are self-motivated, on time or early, and reliable.

Location and Team

We are primarily staffing for an afterschool program at PS 46 in Fort Greene.

You will be part of a team of 2-3 staff members each afternoon with a 1:5 teacher:student ratio.

NOTE: To be in compliance with NYC regulations for school sites, afterschool staff members must be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Schedule and Availability

  • Site Director position is 5 days a week (Monday – Friday) from 1:30pm – 6:00pm
  • The program schedule follows the NYC DOE School calendar, but will also provide full-day programming during a number of school closures, which are opportunities for additional work hours.

Responsibilities

As a Manager & Teacher

  • Print rosters and materials each day and fill out a daily report.
  • Prepare and maintain a welcoming, safe, healthy, organized and age-appropriate learning environment.
  • Ensure staff members are on schedule, prepared, and following Bitty City procedures.
  • Ensure safety and well-being of students, and encourage their participation during outdoor and indoor play, mealtime, and enrichment class time.
  • Problem-solve with young children and manage behavior of groups and individual children, using language focused on “choice” and a positive growth mindset.
  • Collaborate with other afterschool teachers, liaise between teachers and parents and company director.

As an Employee

  • Attend and actively participate in all training sessions and scheduled meetings.
  • Follow procedures and meet expectations as outlined in the Bitty City Staff Handbook and during training and orientation.
  • Communicate clearly with management.
  • Document work hours and submit paperwork on time.
