The College of Performing Arts (CoPA) at The New School is seeking a highly qualified Large Ensemble Manager to join its production team. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Production with a secondary report to the Associate Dean of Mannes, the Large Ensemble Manager supports more than 500 students across the college who take part in large ensemble activities including but not limited to the Mannes Orchestra, Mannes American Composers Ensemble, and The New School Studio Orchestra. The Manager works closely with  production and academic staff, faculty, and administration to ensure that large ensembles function in alignment with the curricular and learning goals and philosophy of the college. The Large Ensemble Manager helps to create a highly inclusive and educationally rich environment for CoPA students while effectively managing large ensemble activities and associated guest artists, staff, production crew, and student workers.

Production and Operations (70%)

• Manage all operational elements of ensemble rotations, from initial conception &  rehearsal preparation through load-out following the final performance, including coordinating rental venues, overseeing transportation logistics, and collaborating with CoPA/TNS staff to create technical production plans and develop concert programs
• Manage the orchestra library, secure performance rights, execute purchases/rentals of scores and parts, and oversee the preparation and distribution of parts
• Manage stage setup for large ensemble rehearsals and performances, supervising Student Crew workers and working closely with The New School’s Facilities staff
• Participate in university season  planning processes and make requests for rehearsal and performance venues.
• Maintain inventory and maintenance of orchestral instruments owned by CoPA
• Assist with summer residency and partnership activities as assigned

Teaching and Learning (30%)

• Partner with the Artistic Director of the Mannes Orchestra and academic administration to make pedagogically informed decisions regarding repertoire selection and part assignments for large ensemble concerts, balancing individualized learning outcomes and objectives with the personnel needs of the selected repertoire
• Administer and attend orchestra auditions and assist with annual juries
• Serve as primary point of contact for students assigned to large ensemble experiences
• Provide key elements of assessment including attendance-taking, concert etiquette, and general preparation
