Founded in 1897 as a formal music conservatory serving 200 students, the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music now serves more than 15,000 individuals annually and collaborates with more than 50 organizations, including schools, youth, social service and senior centers, as well other arts and culture organizations and city agencies, to provide music instruction, music therapy, and performances in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and Manhattan.

Job Position Summary

BKCM is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Individual Giving Manager (“Manager”). The Manager is responsible for developing and executing BKCM’s annual fundraising strategy in partnership with the Development, Marketing and Special Events team. Job responsibilities are detailed below.

BKCM is embarking upon its most ambitious campaign to date with the imminent launch of a multi-year Capital Campaign. We believe this will create the opportunity for a successful hire to grow into a Major Gifts Officer within 2 – 3 years. Candidates should have 3-5 years fundraising experience, possess creativity, initiative, strong interpersonal / relationship building skills, excellent organizational / project management skills and proficiency with Salesforce.

This is a full-time, hybrid position (mix of in-person and remote) reporting to the Director of Marketing & Development. This position will require flexible availability for occasional evening and weekend work, particularly around special event periods.

Salary range: $70,000-$85,000 + benefits commensurate with experience.

Roles & Responsibilities

Cultivate, manage and steward our portfolio of 700+ individual donors, including:

  • Identify, research and engage prospective individual donors Grow and build our relationships with existing individual donors
  • Process, track, manage and maintain critical information on individual donors and donations.
  • The Conservatory uses Salesforce as its donor management platform so experience with Salesforce is beneficial.
  • Day-to-day operations of the annual giving program, including solicitations, acknowledgments, answering donor inquiries, donor follow-up and stewardship.
  • With assistance of the Director of Marketing and Development oversee cultivation strategy for first-time and current donors, including donor-centric updates, benefits and events.
  • Manage special engagement opportunities that move donors to higher levels of annual giving, supporting the growth of a major gifts pipeline.
  • Draft thank you letters and written updates as well as compelling solicitation letters and campaign materials.
  • Work with Marketing department in the design of fundraising materials (i.e. website, video, social media, appeals, etc).
  • Attend and arrange meetings with donors and prospects for cultivation, stewardship and solicitation.
  • Document key conversations and other pertinent donor information in donor management database (Salesforce).
  • Develop a strong working knowledge of database to run appropriate reports and analysis for strategic planning and quarterly review.
  • Managerial responsibilities for Development Assistant and development interns as needed.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience working in a not-for-profit development office with proven success in donor solicitation and individual giving
  • Dynamic and engaging individual with a strong sense of leadership, relationship cultivation, and management
  • Demonstrated strategic, analytic, conceptual, planning, and partnership-building abilities
  • Special event coordination / management experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to multi-task and set priorities within tight timelines and high expectations
  • Managerial experience a plus
  • Passion for music and/or arts education a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (including Powerpoint presentation creation) and CRM/database management (Salesforce), and an openness to embracing new technology.

Working Conditions

  • Office environment, but may work on a hybrid schedule for in-person meetings with staff and donors as needed. Will also be required to attend weekend and/or evening events.

Salary Range and Employee Benefits

$70,000-$85,000
