THE ORGANIZATION:
Growing Place is a non-profit 501(c)(3) child development center, established in 1985. Our mission is to create a better future by helping children develop into confident, compassionate, and creative problem solvers. Our unique program unifies children, parents, and teachers into a community that learns together. Growing Place provides the young children of working families with high-quality, full-day, year-round early education. Our philosophy holds that all children learn from interactions with other children and from interactions with the environment, as well as from interactions with adults. We are in dialogue with Reggio Children and use best practices from their school systems in our context. We fundamentally view children as competent, resilient, and curious individuals; teachers as researchers, facilitators, and collaborators of learning for children and adults; parents as authentic partners.
We operate three NAEYC accredited campuses in Santa Monica.
Description of the Position
The Grant Writer will work in collaboration with the Executive Director and its leadership team to fulfill the application for the Lego Foundation “Building a World of Play Challenge” Grant, due May 17, 2022, at 4:00 pm CST.
Responsibilities and Duties
Work with Directors
- Collaborate with staff to distill pertinent information related to the organization and its grant proposal to meet grant goals, rules, and guidelines
- Research and propose innovative early education business models
- Generate well researched, well written, and well documented grant proposal to Lego Foundation
- Ability to support a visual representation of the written proposal (video; provide vision and direction)
Work with Business Manager
- Coordinate with the GP Business Office to create expenditure and income budgets to accompany the proposal
- Secure all necessary supplementary business documents necessary for
- Inform the Business Office of matters of compliance with the grant agreement
Minimum Education, Skills, and Ability
- A Bachelor’s in a field with writing-intensive experience (ex: English, journalism, communication)
- Grant writing experience should demonstrate a proven track record of securing funding opportunities; comprehensive knowledge of educational models/scale up projects and global initiatives
- Understanding of educational systems preferred, particularly in early childhood education
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work collaboratively and independently
- Respond to internal and external inquiries on drafted and submitted proposal
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to handle confidential information with the utmost integrity and confidentiality
- Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Word, Google Suite..etc)
Working Conditions
- Work from home; in-person or virtual meetings required as needed
- Must have own computer, internet access, etc. to meet the responsibilities and duties
- Requires developmentally normal hearing abilities and visual acuity
