General Manager
College of Performing Arts at The New School
The College of Performing Arts (CoPA) at The New School is seeking a highly qualified General Manager (GM). The GM will be responsible for managing and collaborating in a wide range of areas including accounts payable, contract administration, financial reporting, budgeting, and space planning. The GM will work closely with university partners and is an expert in key business platforms including WorkDay, Banner, Tableau, and MyNewSource.
The GM will be a highly motivated team player with a passion for using systems and structures to support the success of a broad and diverse array of employees including full-time faculty, part-time faculty, staff, and student workers. The GM reports to the Vice Dean for Finance and Administration

Roles & Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Manage the accounts payable process at the College of Performing Arts in collaboration with university office of Finance and Business.
- Process related documentation including Independent Contractor and W9 submissions, honoraria and guest lecturer payments, vendor invoices, purchase orders, student stipend requests, and student graduation awards
- Invoicing, collections as needed, accounts receivable transactions.
- Book travel
- Administer the contract process in collaboration with college partners and the university’s Office of the General Counsel
- Create and share financial reports throughout the year to ensure that resources are efficiently allocated and that necessary funding is available.
- Advise college deans and associate deans throughout the annual cycle to ensure proper allocation of available funds including but not limited to capital funds, operating funds, designated, restricted, endowed, and scholarship funds
- Partner with academic leadership and the Senior Director of Development to develop budgets, projects, grants, and productions as assigned
- Develop and oversee financial controls that align with university policy and best practice including but not limited to systems for review and approval of high-dollar transactions, agreements, contracts, purchases.
- Supervise purchasing card program and ensure that contracts and agreements and MOU’s are in place for high-dollar transactions
- Participate in space planning and the development of capital and construction project proposals.
- Work with the university’s design and construction staff to implement approved capital and construction projects
- In collaboration with Campus Safety, manage office access for CoPA staff and faculty
- In collaboration with IT, manage laptop choice program for CoPA staff and faculty
- Support Associate Director of Business Operations with WorkDay tasks as needed.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
- General Management experience within an arts or higher education environment including experience with contracts, accounts payable, vendor management, budget preparation, and/or space planning
- Skilled and experienced in the use of data and quantitative information to make informed business and programmatic decisions
- Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to diplomatically and skillfully resolve and mediate negotiations and disputes
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work with employees and university stakeholders to compassionately and equitably address a wide range of sensitive issues
- Experienced or able to learn and develop mastery in The New School’s suite of data systems including, Workday, Tableau, Banner, 25Live.
- Ability to adhere to university COVID-19 policy and requirements
- Demonstrated commitment to Equity, Inclusion, Social Justice, and the transformative power of the arts and education
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in arts, nonprofit, business administration, or a related field
- Experienced leveraging data to make informed business decisions
- Two or more years of related experience
Work Modality
- Hybrid
Salary Range
- $65,000-$70,000 per annum
