Roundabout Theatre Company, one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit theatres, seeks an empathetic and organized individual to join the company as the Education Program Manager, School Partnerships.
The Education Program Manager is a full-time, year-round position administrating the implementation of Roundabout’s School Partnership Programs across New York’s 5 boroughs. Working as a member of the Teaching and Learning team, this position will be the point person for partner schools and will oversee all communication and logistics of a partnership year.

Our Teaching & Learning programs (School Partnerships, Roundabout Youth Ensemble, and Professional Development) support students’ social emotional learning and a positive school climate by leveraging Roundabout productions, a theatrical teaching pedagogy, industry exposure, and experiential theatrical projects.

As a theatre company and a long-standing member of many communities, Roundabout believes in the importance of words, the impact of action, and the healing capacity of shared stories. Roundabout has created a five-year strategic plan to evaluate and evolve how we address Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism in our work, workplaces, and our community. Job Position Summary
This is some of what the Education Program Manager will do:
Administer School Partnership Programming
- Liaise with school leadership to develop partnership goals; track progress of partnership goals throughout the academic year
- Design and implement residency and workshop programming to meet partnership goals
- Develop and monitor partnership budgets
- Process work orders, purchase orders, and invoices for partnerships.
- Collaborate with Teaching & Learning Staff on development of curricular resources for Roundabout productions
- Conduct site visits to school partners to observe and monitor partnership progress
- Work with Teaching Artists to ensure that all lesson plans and lesson support materials are organized and easily accessible
- Create, maintain, and update all marketing materials for school partnership programming and events in coordination with Roundabout’s Marketing department.
- Maintain Roundabout’s vendor contract with the Department of Education
- Advocate for school partnership programming with funders and government officials, including NYC City Council Members
Operations
- Communicate with teaching artists, school partners, external clients, and Roundabout staff via phone, email, video calls, and in-person meetings to administer programming.
- Assign Teaching Artists to projects and review Teaching Artist payroll submissions
- Supervise a full-time employee: Education Coordinator, School Programs
- Manage program events including invitation lists, space requests, and catering
- Manage on-site events/field trips for school programs, including student matinees, Hidden Career Path Days, and visits to Roundabout’s Archives.
- Track program expenses
- Acquire and maintain program materials
- Manage school program ticket allocations for Roundabout productions in Tessitura
- Collaborate with colleagues to track constituent relationships and partnership activities in Tessitura
Reporting and Other Duties
- Collaborate with colleagues to provide financial, curricular, and statistical reports for internal and external purposes
- Contribute to grant proposals and reports
- Develop and administer program assessments
- Collaborate with Education staff to ensure program is represented on Education at Roundabout’s social media.
- Participate in internal professional development programming.
- Represent Roundabout at arts education conferences, workshops, and other events.
This is a full-time position with all standard Roundabout benefits. The starting salary is $58,500 annually.
Roles & Responsibilities
This is some of what the Education Manager should bring:
- A collaborative spirit with excellent interpersonal skills and a roll up your sleeves and get it done attitude
- Training in theatre, education, arts administration or related field from an educational institution or equivalent professional experience.
- 3 – 5 years’ experience required in the field of arts administration, nonprofit programming, or similar work.
- A general knowledge of all aspects of professional theatre.
- Experience as an Educator and/or Teaching Artist preferred.
- Experience managing budgets
- Understanding of and experience with NYC Department of Education culture and processes
- Computer software skills: Microsoft Office/365, especially Microsoft Excel, Adobe Creative Suite, Google Suite, DocuSign.
- Tessitura or comparable CRM knowledge and experience a plus.
- Experience working with high school students, educators, theatre industry professionals, artists, and arts education professionals.
- Strong organization and communication skills.
- Some weekend and evening hours required – scheduled based on programming needs.
- Travel on public transit within metropolitan NYC area required.
- Some travel outside of NYC may be required once or twice per year for conferences.
- Driver’s license a plus, not required.
- Ability to lift 30 pounds.
