About Our Organization

Founded in 1972, the Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning (JCAL) is a multidisciplinary urban arts center based in Jamaica, Queens—the most diverse, multilingual county in New York City. Our mission is devoted to offering quality visual, performing, and literary arts, and to providing accessible education programs to encourage participation in the arts. We operate out of two landmark buildings: the Jamaica Arts Center, with five floors of galleries, artist studios, rehearsal spaces, a black-box theater and office space; and the Jamaica Performing Arts Center, a 400-seat, flexible proscenium theater.

Job Position Summary

JCAL is hiring two (2) PT Education Associates to provide administrative, operational and strategic support for programs funded by the City of New York, foundation, corporate and individual supporters as well as additional education programs supported through earned income. The position is onsite; availability for certain Saturday hours are required.

Roles & Responsibilities

Reporting to JCAL’s Director of Education and completing a three-person team, the candidates will be resourceful, entrepreneurial additions to JCAL, with potential for FT roles during FY2023. The individual(s) will perform specific tasks and hold clear responsibilities with JCAL School of the Arts (youth/adult education); Cultural After-School Adventures (CASA) and SU-CASA programs (spring); JCAL School and Family series (seasonal); Queens International Children’s Festival (annual); JCAL Talks (seasonal); JCAL Reads (seasonal); JCAL College Access (seasonal); and other projects as may arise.

Tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating implementation and smooth operation of JCAL School of the Arts.
  • Managing afterschool/in-school residencies, partnerships and workshops.
  • Initiating, tracking and following up on email and phone correspondence with schools, teachers, students, parents, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Acting as communication facilitator among and between teaching artists and clients at partner organizations.
  • Overseeing aspects of pre- and post-production for on-site and off-site events.
  • Assisting in collecting data and documentation for internal use and for grantors.
  • Traveling, as directed, to partner sites and filing oral/written reports on program findings.
  • Assisting with budget monitoring and projections.
  • Ensuring collection, accuracy and submission of teaching artist timesheets.
  • Procuring program supplies (e.g., visual arts materials, music books, costumes).
  • Maintaining school/senior center calendar.
  • Recruiting CASA students into JCAL School of the Arts.
  • Providing general administrative support for all JCAL Education Department programs.

Compensation is $28/hr. for 24 hours a week.
