Job Position Summary

BRIC seeks a Director, Youth Education and Family Programs who will be responsible for developing and overseeing BRIC’s art and media youth education programs and family programming, in line with BRIC’s strategic vision.

Roles & Responsibilities

What You’ll Do in the Role:

The Director, Youth Education and Family Programs will be responsible for the following in addition to any other projects as assigned by their manager, Senior Vice President, Programs and Strategy:

  • Develop goals for BRIC school and community residencies (school day and OST) in both media and contemporary art, and for BRIC’s family programs.
  • Establish and cultivate partner relationships with schools, community partners and funders.
  • Oversee departmental and programmatic budgets by ensuring revenue and expense targets are met through regular tracking of expenses.
  • Negotiate residency contracts to meet school and partner goals and align with BRIC’s mission and strategic priorities.
  • Oversee curation and production of family programs, including House Parties and Family Workshops.
  • Guide the curriculum and content development for youth and family programs.
  • Supervise planning and production for special programs, including youth media festival, annual student exhibition, youth curatorial fellowship and public programs for youth.
  • Supervise a team of 3 BRIC employees and multiple part-time Teaching Artists.
  • Manage overall recruitment, professional development, and evaluation of Teaching Artists.
  • Collaborate with the Development team to prepare fundraising proposals and funder reports.
  • Collaborate with Adult Media Education team to facilitate connection between youth and adult learning.
  • Develop a pedagogical framework and oversee program assessment and evaluation.
  • Represent BRIC in public forums and the larger education community.
  • Supports and manages other projects as needed.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in art and media education, including classroom and curriculum development.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising a team and being responsible for the career path of others.
  • Strong knowledge of NYC public schools and the art education landscape.
  • Ability to listen openly, think strategically and influence across all levels of an organization.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills to successfully work with people across a wide range of communities.
  • Demonstrated understanding of racial justice and the ability to engage with individuals from historically underrepresented communities.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team, and the ability to communicate with all levels of an organization.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong project-management skills, from concept and planning to implementation.

ADA Specifications:

  • While largely sedentary, this position requires the ability to sit, stand, lift up to 10 lbs., speak and hear, sometimes for extended periods of time.
  • Some offices are a considerable distance apart; may require mobility about 5% of the day.
  • Requires the ability to use a computer and office equipment traditionally found in office settings.

Other Things to Know:

  • Compensation: The annual salary range for this position is $100k – $120k.
  • Status and location: This is a full-time, exempt role based in our Brooklyn office.

BRIC currently pays 100% of the premium for employee medical, dental and vision coverage starting on the first of the month after 2 months of employment.
