About Our Organization
Casita Maria headquartered in the South Bronx, was established in 1934 as the first charitable organization to serve Latinos in New York City. Today, Casita Maria remains dedicated to its original mission, delivering services to the mostly Latino youth and families in the Bronx. Casita Maria also offers youth programming in East Harlem. Casita operates within a state-of-the-art educational and cultural facility encompassing performance spaces, an exhibition gallery, dance and music studios, and more on its Simpson Street campus.
Job Position Summary
Casita Maria (“Casita”) is looking for a Director of Education and Programs to oversee programs and educational initiatives. The Director is a highly visible position in the organization, requiring participation at Casita Maria and partner functions in the community, especially major events and activities. From time to time, the Director of Education and Programs will represent the Executive Director and agency at public events and forums.
You are: An experienced, motivated and inspirational youth education and program leader who will oversee Casita Maria’s programs and educational initiatives. With a passion for the mission and the community, reporting to the Executive Director, you will work closely with the Artistic Director to develop exceptional programs and services under the Creative Youth Development framework with a focus on education, the arts, social emotional learning, and therapeutic arts, sports and recreation. These efforts are intentionally designed to achieve the programmatic goals of Casita Maria and have a positive impact on the children, youth, families, and residents of East Harlem and the Bronx.
Roles & Responsibilities
What you’ll do – Essential responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership and vision for all of Casita Maria after-school, summer day camp, and teen and college readiness programs and educational initiatives.
- Lead and supervise program and associate program coordinators and support them in leading all education program staff, ensuring that they have the resources and support they need to succeed.
- Develop and implement programmatic goals, objectives, and strategies that align with the organization’s mission, vision, values, and strategic plan.
- Oversee the development and implementation of educational initiatives, including curriculum development and teacher training.
- Develop and implement new programs expanding offerings to include athletic programs and sports education.
- Contribute to budget development and oversee program budgets and ensure that
programs operate within budgetary guidelines and in compliance with public and private
donors. - Work collaboratively with other departments to integrate programs and services.
- Serve as the primary liaison for the Bronx Studio School for Writers and Artists and all in-
house non-profit providers, ensuring that Casita Maria’s goals and interests are protected. - Establish and maintain relationships with community organizations, funders, and other
stakeholders to promote Casita Maria’s mission and programs. - Stay current with trends and best practices in program development and education and
incorporate them into Casita Maria’s programs as appropriate. - Participate in program evaluation and quality improvement activities.
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Work Hours
The Director of Education and Programs is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) because he, she, they is/are classified as an executive, professional, and administrative employee, and meets the specific criteria for the exemption. General schedule is weekdays and evenings 10am to 6pm. Some weekend work is expected to support onsite and offsite events and activities.
What you’ll bring – Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in education, management, public administration, or a related field preferred.
- At least 5-7 years of experience in program management, preferably in a non-profit setting.
- Experience working with federal, state and local government and agencies, especially DYCD (Department of Youth and Community Development), New York Department of Education and other relevant governing and oversight bodies.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with experience supervising and mentoring staff.
- Strong budget development and management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
- Understanding and commitment to Casita Maria’s mission, vision, and values.
- Ability to pass employment and criminal background checks required to be able to work with children

Annual Salary Range
The salary range for this role is $80k-85K per year.
