The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center (CMS) is one of eleven constituents of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the largest performing arts complex in the world. The Chamber Music Society has its home in Alice Tully Hall – the finest hall in the world for chamber music. Through its performance, education, and recording/broadcast activities, it draws more people to chamber music than any other organization of its kind.
Job Position Summary
The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center (CMS) seeks a Director of Education & Community Engagement at a time of great accomplishment and growth. The position will lead the Department of Education & Community Engagement to fulfill its mission of stimulating and expanding access to the appreciation and performance of chamber music through programs offered in New York City, the tri-state area, as part of national touring initiatives, and online.
The Director of Education & Community Engagement is a member of the senior leadership team and a thought leader who provides vision in setting the overall strategy for education and community engagement, including DEI-focused programs, in alignment with the organization’s strategic goals. With many programs being partner-driven, the position maintains and regularly expands a thriving network of education and community engagement partners, and works collaboratively with other Lincoln Center constituents.
Roles & Responsibilities
The Director of Education & Community Engagement oversees the development and execution of distinct and varied programs, ranging from concerts designed for families with neurodiverse children, lectures for adult audiences, to community concerts including:
- Family programs (currently Meet the Music!, CMS Kids)
- School programs (currently Young Musicians Program, Young Ensembles Program, Young Musicians Innovation Challenge, Chamber Music Beginnings, Music Up Close)
- Adult Programs (currently Inside Chamber Music, Master Classes, Pre-Concert Lectures)
- Touring education and family program development and production (currently Meet the Music! On Tour, Inside Chamber Music On Tour)
- Diamonstein-Spielvogel Music and Community Engagement Initiative
The Director of Education & Community Engagement will also imagine, develop, and implement new programs in furtherance of the recently adopted 5-year Strategic Plan.
The position reports to the Executive Director and works collaboratively with the Artistic Directors, members of every department at CMS, the Board Education & Community Engagement Committee, and other members of the Board of Directors and Global Council. The position supervises two direct reports: the Education and Family Programs Manager and Education and Community Engagement Associate.
