Roundabout Theatre Company, the nation’s largest not-for-profit theatre, seeks a dedicated, personable individual to join the company as the Director of Community Partnerships. Building on longstanding relationships with our schools, audiences, and other external partners, Roundabout Theatre Company seeks to use theatre to deepen its connection to our local communities, especially those historically marginalized from and underrepresented in New York’s theatre industry.
Job Position Summary
The Director of Community Partnerships is a full-time, year-round position which oversees Roundabout’s Community Partnerships and Audience Engagement programs. The Director of Community Partnerships provides strategic thought leadership, direction, and management of several Community Partnerships initiatives supporting Roundabout’s goal to make our spaces and our shows welcoming and accessible to all as we build trusting and lasting relationships. They will collaborate with colleagues across the organization to look for ways to strengthen existing relationships and build new partnerships within our community.
Roles & Responsibilities
This is some of what the Director of Community Partnerships will do:
- Lead the assessment and evaluation of existing community partnerships and programing and work with leadership to solidify and grow a comprehensive Community Partnerships plan.
- Engage, cultivate, and steward key stakeholders to deepen strategic relationships.
- Develop programmatic goals and outcomes in collaboration with key partners, stakeholders, and senior leaders.
- Oversee and support the production of in person and remote public facing audience and community events and programs.
- Share stories and program highlights externally.
- Supervise communications regarding theatre-based events to all relevant theatre staff.
- Attend events to support and evaluate program impact.
- Support the production of UPSTAGE Playgoers Guides and digital audience resources.
- Supervise the distribution of audience engagement collateral for each production, and work with partners to augment their reach.
- Supervise Community Partnerships staff and teaching artists.
- Oversee relevant budget areas.
- Advocate for program models by participating and presenting at conferences, workshops, and ongoing involvement with organizations.
- Support fellow Education Staff members in fostering partnerships with schools, theatre, community-based organizations, artists, and community members.
- Assist the Development team by reporting on programs and attending select funder meetings to represent Community Partnerships programs and initiatives.
- General Office Support
- Utilize administrative systems to support programs, such as the increased use of the Tessitura database for constituent and program tracking.
- Coordinate with Education Manager, Data and Career Development, to provide financial, curricular, and statistical reports for internal and external purposes.
- Oversee the collection of data, work samples, and photographs for final reports.
- Support department events as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
This is some of what the Director of Community Partnerships should bring:
- A strong team spirit and willingness to adapt to programmatic and organizational evolution.
- Experience building consensus with a broad range of partners in a variety of communities; particularly with a strong understanding of social justice and an ability to engage respectfully with individuals from historically marginalized NYC neighborhoods and communities.
- A minimum of 7 years of professional work experience with direct experience leading programing, managing budgets, and motivating and managing staff.
- Experience supporting relaxed performances and/or working with people with disabilities is a plus.
- Experience working with leaders across departments to build support for key initiatives.
- Knowledge and passion for all aspects of professional theatre.
- Experience building curriculum, teaching theatre, and/or facilitating workshops and events.
- Excellent administrative and interpersonal skills, including strong time management skills, attention to detail, ability to take initiative, and manage multiple tasks/projects.
- Fluency in a language other than English, (i.e., Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic) is a plus.
- Strong Computer software skills with knowledge of Tessitura, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
LOCATION AND HOURS
Roundabout’s Education Offices are located on the 3rd Floor of the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre. An elevator is available for the majority of the time, however, there are times that the elevator is not available. The department is temporarily relocated to Roundabout’s Rehearsal Hall, located at 115 West 45th Street, 11th Floor (elevators are available to access the floor).
During the pandemic, as of March 2020, Roundabout’s staff has been working remotely, except as required for essential in-person functions. Beginning in September, in-person work will resume. General schedule is Monday-Friday 10am – 6pm with some weekend and evening hours required.
